I've seen a thread like this before but i could not find it again and i enjoy reading them soooo ... what was the first handgun you ever owned pics are welcome. for me it was when i got my first paycheck when i was 14 i bought a Beretta Neos .22lr with a 6in barrel. (well technically my dad "bought" it) later i ended up trading my youth bow in for a scope for it. this is still one of my favorite guns to just plink with.

Smith model 19 -- used mostly shooting .38 caliber bullseye for awhile. Still a fine shooter tho mostly a bedside gun now.

Mine was a .22 Single Six. Got it at 12 yrs old. Was the dispatch piece for my trap line. Has a mark on the end of the barrel where I got just a little close to a big 'coon. Still have it. God, that was 35 years ago. Oh the memories.

I'm not entirely sure which was "first"; I bought a Blackhawk .357 from a friend at a fairly early age (with parents permission, of course). I also inherited a series 1 (1941) Colt Woodsman at about the same time.

I don't have the Blackhawk any more, having long since swapped or sold it for something else. The Woodsman was my grandfather's trapping gun. When he passed away in 1982, my grandmother kept in in a cabinet for protection. When she passed a few years later, I inherited it.

This pistol is 70 years old this year, and still shoots as reliably and accurately as it ever could have. My wife shot it not to long ago, and was shooting a bug hole out of the center of the bullseye at 10 yards off of a rest. It is by far my favorite .22 pistol to shoot, not to mention sentimental value, and I keep it very safely tucked away in one of my safes when not in use.

It has horizontal lines across the web of the grip, indicating it's rated for "high-velocity" ammo. That said, the only "quirk" is that if I shoot subsonic stuff, I have to load 7 or 8 rounds into the magazine instead of 10 to prevent failures to feed on the first couple of shots. The sugsonic stuff just doesn't have enough "umph" to cycle the action with the extra "up" pressure from a full magazine. I guess it goes to show how well 70 year old mag and slide springs can work, though.

My first pistol was a Helwan Brigadier 9mm, Had my dad buy it for me when I was 16, and its been through hell and back, more hiking trips than I can remember..and has had over 5k rounds through it...Sadly however, my locking block finally broke and I cant find a replacement, so she sits above my desk on the wall and brings back many memories whenever I look at her. Some day, I hope to have her shoot again....

Lotsa first guns,,,

Several "firsts" for me.

The first handgun I ever shot was a .38 snubbie,,,
My grandfather always wore a levi jacket,,,
That gun was always in the pocket,,,
I got to fire it once when I was 4.

He called it his Colt,,,
All I remember was that it kicked,,,
And I was forever after hooked on shooting guns.

My Mother's pistol was a alloy frame Colt Frontier Scout .22 LR,,,
It always lived in a box on top of the refrigerator,,,
I was 35 when Mom finally sold it to me.

It was the first gun I was allowed to use extensively,,,
But only if I did all my chores well and on time.

Then I didn't have any money for a loooooooong time.

The first handgun I bought for myself,,,
That was a completely thought out purchase,,,
Waited until after I was 56 years old and graduated college.

Smith & Wesson Model 15 Combat Masterpiece,,,
I named her Stella because she's a star,,,
Possibly the finest .38 ever made.

Aarond

P.S. I really have fun with my NEOS as well,,,

.

My first handgun was a Colt Woodsman that I bought from a trap range I worked at in my teens. Had it for about 3 years. During the “Blizzard of ‘79” I had to abandon my truck along the road, and forgot the pistol was in the glove box. It got stolen. Sure wish I still had that thing.
