A friend of mine was in the Korean military probably 30 years ago and he was telling me stories about how some people would sharpen their triggers. I think the idea was this would make them more reliable? more sensitive? Or maybe the stock Korean military sidearm triggers were cast so bad they had to clean them up?

Anyone hear of this before?

He meant exactly that,,,

When I was stationed at Camp Long I once saw a group of ROK soldiers doing just that,,,
They had some files and were sharpening the triggers on their M-1 Carbines.

Korea is very cold,,,
They wear gloves all the time,,,
This allowed them to feel the trigger through their thick gloves.

We're not talking knife edge sharp,,,
Just a sharper ridge for their trigger finger to feel.

No metaphor there,,,
Very literal meaning as described.

Sharpening the trigger at one end might assist gloved shooting. However, it can also mean sharpening the other end which reduces the sear contact area. This is supposed to result in a shorter trigger pull -- done improperly, it can result in the sear slipping or not setting at all.

"Sharpen your trigger",
Are you sure you didn’t leave off a word?
The only time I have heard that term it was “Sharpen your trigger skills.”
From my friend that passed away years ago who used that term on me. It meant little more than "You need more trigger time."
