Ever Given a Gun Away?

Not for presents, I mean to someone in need for protection that was in a tight situation or otherwise needed one for a good reason beyond borrowing one.
I have did this three times, once I gave my sister a Charter Arms 38 when she about to embark in a drive from Ohio to Washington state. I didn't want her to drive all that way alone with no protection. Another time I didn't want to loan my buddy my better rifle for hunting and so I gave him a 336CS and he said he had always dreamed of owning a thuty-thuty.

How about you?

Bought an Ex-girlfriend a police trade in S&W 66,with a 2 1/2 barrel.She was working at the V.A. and getting off late at night,in a crappy part of town.Man i wished i had that .357 back.

Yes, twice. A Glock 19 to my daughter and a stainless Para 1911 GI Expert to a friend because he had a need.

Not yet. When I die, my wife has instructions to give a few of my guns to certain friends and relatives, then she can do as she pleases with the majority of them.

While I'm alive? Probably not.

Yup. Can't say how many over the years. More than a handful, likely.

Son, Daughter-in-law, good friend, grandson...

Have given away more than one Charter Arms Undercover .38spl.

Related; the first handgun I ever owned was given to me by a good friend when I was 13. I gave it back to him when I left that part of my life.

LAst gun I gave away was to a friend who had just recieved orders to ship out to Iraq, for the second time!

He was having a going away party and we got to talking about pistols. He stated that he had never owned a 1911. Out in my truck, I just happened to have a used Springfield I had just bought. I went out and got it and gave it to him as a going away present. Made him feel real good, and made me proud to show my apriciation to a nice guy going off to a far away land to fight for my country.

P.S. He made it back and we now shoot together a couple times a year! He always bring the Springfield so I can shoot it!

Hello Sparks1957,,,

Not yet. When I die, my wife has instructions to give a few of my guns to certain friends and relatives, then she can do as she pleases with the majority of them.

That reminds me of a T-shirt I once saw

Dear Lord:
Please don't let my widow sell my guns,,,
For the prices I told her I paid for them

Gave only one. Gave my Dad a MN 91/30 for his birthday one year. Money is too tight to be as benevolent as some of you gentlemen.

Guess that doesn't even count based on your stipulations.... Haven't had anyone in such need like that..

Yung: Give it time. Some of us "gentlemen" have been around for a few more years than you have.

May it not always be so for you that things are so tight.

Best,

Will

Yep, ran across a deal on a Remington Model 51 .380 acp some years back, and bought it specifically to give to my brother. He had commented to me once that he liked the looks of the gun and wished he had one.

I gave it to him to, in a small way, repay him for all the gunsmithing he had done for me over the years and refused to let me pay him for. The value of the gun didn't come close to the value of all the work he has done for me, but he was happy to accept it, and it was just about the only thing I could give him
that he really wanted.:D

I've given several as gifts,,,

I've given several as gifts to university graduates,,,
But never to someone who needed a gun for protection.

If that situation ever arose I would take them shopping,,,
Then help them with money for the purchase if that was necessary.

Thanks for the laugh, Aarond. Problem is my wife has the spreadsheet already with the guns listed, serial numbers, what was paid for them, etc.

Before I deployed, I "gave" all my guns to Pops with verbal instructions with what to do with them, mainly gifts to some of my friends and fraternity brothers, so I wouldn't have to record them in my will.

Yes, as with others here, to family members and a few friends.

Some were heirlooms passed down to me. Naturally, they went to family members and so will the rest I still have.
Also to family went some I had purchased. One was a pistol I carried for years that went to my brother for sentimental reason's as this was the pistol that stopped us from possible harm one evening.

To the few friends went guns I had purchased, that when they shot them, they really liked them.

I just gave a military rifle from Sweden made in 1888 and a British 301 made in 1941 to the local Historical Society and Museum for them to display.
