Hmm...hm...Already got myself a CZ455 but Fleet's got a new Marlin 60 on sale for $149.

My boy's only 6 so there's still plenty of time. I bet he'd love to have it for a first gun though.

Just thinking it'd be fun to plink around with this lil semi-auto since it's damm cheap :p

haven't bought it yet...just wrestling with myself to see if I want to do it or not...honestly I have no real good reason to get it :o

Yes. I went to a gunsmith to get a 22 fixed after I had taken it apart and unfixed it. While waiting, I noticed a Winchester 9422 in the corner and asked about it. The smith said it's yours for $80, and I said I'll take it. Didn't need it. Couldn't pass up the deal.

You sure it's for your son and not for you?

Sounds like my wife when she looks at a black pair of shoes.

I have bought rifles for dumb reasons.

"Hmm, I have a few boxes of 7mm bullets in that pile of reloading stuff I got cheap and nothing to shoot it in" ;)

Yeppers,,,

Well not for no reason,,,
The reason was it was on a great sale.

Now I had no earthly need for the rifle,,,
But a Mossberg 702 PLinkster on sale for $99.95,,,
I bought it to have around for a impromptu gift type of thing.

I couldn't stand not shooting it though,,,
The little gun was such a nice performer I kept it.

Someday though,,,
I'll run across a deserving young kid,,,
It's not like I have a shortage of rimfire rifles in my cabinet.

thanks guys for your stories...you guys have taught me that picking up a killer steal on impulse is ok, but for my situation, i don't think it calls in the same situation. it's a good deal, but not killer. and i think i'd rather buy something i want to keep for life then just for a couple yrs and resell.

Impulse buying is the reason for at LEAST 3 of my guns; Beretta BL4 and Savage 93R17HMR. I picked up my M1 Garand while hunting for a 9mm, price was a steal so I couldn't just let it go.

I never buy rifles/handguns for no reason at all, if I see one I like, I want it, that's reason enough. I have bought .22 rifles because I did not have the make and model. I presently have a LNIB Glenfield/Marlin model60, a LNIB Marlin model 99M1, and a Ruger 10/22. I have owned just about every American made 22 at one time or another. My kids and grand kids love when I open the safe and say, pick a .22 rifle. The few antique pump 22's that I have and the rest of my guns will go only after I pass on per my will.

Really like the Marlin 60.

However: it is easier for a new shooter to learn to 'clear' a firearm with a detachable box magazine rather than a tube feed.

Hate to be some safety nazi, but it's just something to think about.

That's why my dad forced me to learn on a bolt-action with a box magazine. Easy to remember and see when the gun is clear. When I was taking the NRA gun safety course as a youngster I saw almost all of the kids had either a 10/22 or a model 60 even though the instructor strongly urged for bolt actions. Funny enough when the instructor chose the students with the highest scores to start a youth smallbore team, only one had used a semi-auto to qualify. It was a Marlin 60, though.

Sorry for the rambling. Way off topic I know.
