Ever been blackballed by a paper?

For longer than I can remember, I've been writing letters to the editor at our local paper, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. They have a one letter every two months policy, and I usually managed to get mine published about that often. The last letter they published was on Dec. 30, 1999 and since then I've written many letters. I felt they were well-written and "pithy." Yet none have been published. I'm almost tempted to call the editor for the letters to the editor to find out what the problem is.

Have any of you ever worn out your welcome with you local liberal rag?

I finally got a letter in the paper a few weeks ago. Our paper has a one letter a month policy, and now I have to wait. If you really want, why don't you write the letters and invite others on the board to copy and send them to their own local papers. This way your letter would make it to a paper, and it would be an effertless part for anyone who isn't verbally skilled. I think it would be a great Idea.

I can't even read those papers any more, much less try to write to them. I used to get two daily papers delivered to the house, plus some local rag. After reading one too many anti gun editorials, I tore all the boxes down and told them to come and get them.
ack!

Monkeyleg,
I have had a letter to the editor rewritten by the paper before being published, which changed the meaning slightly but in an important way. I didn't give permission and it wasn't discussed with me to make sure that the meaning was preserved. The change was made because the editor didn't really understand part of the issue.
I used to get the paper every day but have cut back to just the weekends.
Call 'em up and give 'em 9 kinds of Hell. If there is another local paper then send in your letter with a mention of the other paper's poor practices.

Apple a Day, I've been "edited" more times than I can count. For awhile I was having so many letters published that I was thinking about asking the paper if I could write a weekly column for them, giving the "other side."

I'm going to call the letters editor and find out. As for submitting to another paper, there _is_ no other paper. In fact, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has been buying up all the small town papers in Wisconsin. Pretty soon, the only voice to be heard in the state will be theirs. They already own the mayor (or he owns them), and all of the pols in the southeastern portion of the state.

If anyone wants to use my latest letter, it's on the plastic gun/Cheney issue and it's either on General or Legal Political under "Quick: plastic guns?"
