European Combo guns

There is another post here about a BRNO gun. Brno guns are well made and will last a life time. I had commented in that post and did not want to hijack it. I'm posting pics on two of my European combo's. The first is a Sabatti 12 ga, 2 3/4" over 6.5 X 57R. A great and pretty gun. I bought while stationed and hunting in Germany.

The second is a Valmet 412S, 12ga, 3" chamber over .223 Rem. What I love about this gun is you zero the scope to the shotgun barrel at say 40 yards, then adjust the rifle barrel to the scope's point of aim at 100 yards.

I purchased both guns new.

ligonierbill, Yes I did not so much now. While I was in Germany I had the same Sabatti model only in 12 over 30/06. I used it on a lot of hunts for wild bore. In the past I called coyotes a lot here in Wisconsin and used them for coyote calling. I used 30/40 Krag brass for the 6.5 X57R, just resize them in the 6.5 X 57 dies and load. For 12 gauge, I loaded 60 BBB (lead) pellets in 2 3/4 FGM hulls over 34.5 Blue Dot. They did the job. Even with the Valmet and its 23" barrel I would get 6 to 7 hits in a paper pie plate at 40 yards. Age is catching up with me now. I'll be 72 in a just over a month and don't get out much anymore.

Fun deer hunting memory; old German friend of my father-in-law's; had a "drilling?" It was a 12ga over a .357. He used to keep 1 .357 round in his front pocket;)

If it was deer rifle season here in Wisconsin I could really have used one of those last friday. I was pheasant hunting and all of a sudden saw a doe being followed by a 4 point. Then here comes a small 8 and it ran across the field after the other deer and flushed some pheasants. I went to where the pheasants were and 5 minutes later here comes a bigger 8 point. 2 minutes behind that deer was an even bigger 10 point. All in 20 yards not caring about me. Such interesting guns. The rut is on.
