ET TU Pataki!

Well folks, it is the Ides of march, the day Julius Caesar was stabbed by his buddy Brutus. Or so we are told by ancient historians.

Today I feel like Julius Caesar must have felt in the moments before he expired. I have been a supporter of Gov Pataki since he sent Mario the emperor into retirement. Pataki was looked upon as the savior of the state, and he has done good until now.

Last december Pataki vetoed the firearms safety bill that would have brought Eddie the Eagle into NY classrooms. Today he is proposing the whole list of current knee jerk liberal anti gun measures even including an "Assault Gun Ban". Pataki is so pu$$y whipped by the soccer moms that he is doing a Caesar to his biggest supporters in the state, legal gun owning NRA members.

I am at a loss, I feel empty. I am outnumbered by the Carolyn McCarthys who are pressuring Pataki into bowing to their altar of irrationality. I feel something coming here in NY, something bad. I can sense it in the air, see it in the people.

I am being disenfranchised from the country that I defended. I am being made a criminal in the eyes of the very people I served and gave seven years of my life to so many years ago.

I own an Assault gun, an AR 15. It is a symbolic measure on my part for I am a shotgunner and don't have a need for an AR 15. I admit that it has as of this date never been fired, in fact I only own 1 10 round magazine for it. It sits in the back of my gun safe behind the shotguns and probably needs an oiling. I know I should take it out and sight it in, but Sporting Clays has always taken up available range time. No more, I will get in this fight, and that AR is staying in my safe and will be sighted in. Damn the traitorous Republicans to hell.

This week the NYSRPA will demonstrate outside K mart in southhampton. I will be there, any other New Yorkers please join me.

Geoff, I really feel your pain and not like Clinton either! I'm in Tonawanda, NY and I own an AR-15. Funny it has never jumped out of the gun locker and gone on a shooting spree. I suggest that every owner of any kind of "assault rifle" prepare for the worst. If they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns and I intend to be an outlaw rather than surrender my god given right. As for demonstrations, good but keep in mind that a personalized letter to your representatives and Komrad Governor carries a lot more weight than a demonstration.. I hope you guys in South hampton use the demonstration to urge people to write every representative they can. I will be doing it here. This weekend will be a letter writing weekend for me! I intend to tell that SOB exactly what I think of his back stabbing move. In polite language of course. I always have to wait a few days to settle down before I write so I won't write something too revolutionary sounding. Like "I'm willing to die to defend my God-given rights, are you willing to die trying to take them from me?" If that bill passes into law, I encourage you to build hide-away places in your home to put your guns. I'm waiting for the case in which a law abiding gun owner is caught with an "illegal gun" and it finally makes it to the supreme court. Of course if Al-gore wins this November, the supreme court will be of no use. That damn Pataki stabbed us all in the back and he has lost this voter!

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

Gee, I wonder if this is part of the Republican plan for incrementally restoring our rights that I keep hearing about in other threads here. I mean, the Republicans are on the side of RKBA, aren't they? Aren't they?

Ok, in my haste to vent my anger above I stated that the NYSRPA is demonstrating in southhampton. Actually they are meeting at the RIVERHEAD K Mart at 12 noon sunday.

I spoke with Bob Baumann from NYSRPA and he expects 100 people to be there. It would be nice if we made a liar out of him and more than 100 showed up!

for you NY'ers and anyone else:

Riverhead LI K Mart
south side of Old country road/ Rte 58, three traffic lights east of Central Suffolk Hospital, about two miles east of LIE exit 73.

Hey you guys from Connecticut! Take the ferry!

ds1973...I will be writing also, but I need to take some action. I want to go face to face with the anti's ( of course I'll be polite :D).

Hey, I used to live in Tonawanda.

The mistake is to assume a monolithic GOP that Pataki is somehow betraying. That is not a correct assumption.

Many Eastern GOP are just economic conservatives. They are most concerned with preserving the privileges of the rich. Capital gain taxes cuts are their game.

However, they play the social conservatives like a violin by playing the law and order race card. That's Rudy! Not saying that he didn't clean up NYC, though - just their image.

But when they do the law and order thing - it is clearly through the power of the armed state.

An armed populace is as foreign to the economic conservative as it is to the social liberal.

The latter fears the gun and worries about the killing (some with real compassion). However,
the economic conservatives fears that the displaced worker whose job is know in Indonesia will pick up the AR-15 and head for the gated communities.

Thus, do not expect much from the economic conservative branch.

I must also point out that the social conservative wing has its own problems.
Buchanan ain't a really winner.
