Estate S.W.A.T. Buckshot

Bought some of this stuff the other day and I really like it so far. It is a reduced recoil 00 Buckshot. Says on the box that it is designed for practice, police, and HD use.

Less felt recoil than the Federal Personal Defense loads with #2 shot, and it patterns pretty well (my unscientific test showed it patterned out to 5 - 7 inches at approx 20 yards - I don't ascribe to the "shotgun as a rifle" school of thought and would like even more spread than that). And cheap! I gave $4.99 for a box of 10.

Only thing I don't like is the low brass.

Anybody else have any experience with this stuff?

Some of us tried it out last year or so and liked it. My spreads from a chokeless 870 ran 16-20" at 25 yards, tighter than other 00 has. Price was $2.19 a ten pack from Natchez, IIRC.

Mind mentioning where you bought this? Natchez doesn't cerry it anymore and other sources seem to have dried up.

What's the difference b/n high brass and low brass? Is that the length of the brass base? And why is one better than the other?

Thanks, -Coop

I bought it at Franklin's gun shop in Athens GA. don't know if they will ship or not, but the address is www.franklinsofathens.com

"low brass" just means that the brass section of the shell is short, about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch or so by my estimation. High brass means the brass section is longer, about 3/4 to 1 inch or so, again by estimation. Supposedly high brass is stronger/more reliable/more reloadable/ etc. I dont reload and I've never had any problems with low brass shells, so it is a very minor consideration.

Way back when the world, or at least smokeless ammo was new, most shotgun shells were all brass, and each hunter reloaded his/her own. Later, the paper case come along, and a crude code evolved where high brass indicated a heavy load and lower brass meant a lighter one.

The height of the brass now has no significance about case strength. These days it's cosmetics.

The Estate stuff has a low brass case. No prob....

Funny you should mention that Dave. The local club range has a "no high brass" rule. I never shoot there as I can not afford the time requirement as a member. I was wondering what that sign was all about though.

I love the stuff!
Got a 1000 from Natchez awhile back...$2.19 a box as well. Great to train with and it's in the gun at home.

Hope another sale comes along in the near future.

I talked to Natchez, and they have droped the product from thier offerings. The reason tha tthey gave was that they had to order it a rail car at a time.
