Cabelas had on sale the 25pack of estate buck 00 9pel. so i figured id grab them for messing around blasting stuff since its alot cheaper than normal 6$for 5. so i opened it up when i got home  to notice one shell had the plastic part of the shell sticking out over the brass. Just a sliver maybe 3/8" wide piece of plastic that didn't get pressed into the brass. Obviously this would be unsafe to fire correct?

Unsafe to fire?

No.

Just trim it off.

I've found that in years past with other manufacturers, as well. It's no huge deal, but you do want to throw the shell out, and not try to reload it.

I agree with Mike ....its safe to shoot ( if the round will chamber cleanly ) ...but it might stick when you try and remove it as well.

Estate is relatively inexpensive - and dirty in my experience - ammunition. I've shot a little of it - for clays - so it was 8's or 9's ...but it really gummed up the chambers. For throw away - cheap ammo - I've gone to RIO's - but I don't know if they make any "defensive ammo" or if its just more typical bird shot. But if your range allows you to shoot "bird shot" - I would do that anyway --- just for some range time.

However, since you bought it at Cabela's - I'm sure they would exchange it for another box - so I wouldn't trim that round / I'd just leave it as is - and the rest of the box - and exchange it for another box the next time you're there.

Its only 1 shell out of a box of 25 so ill toss it, i dont go there unless they have more than a few things on sale that i pile up on since they are so dam expensive

Oh, ok ....

Cabela's is funny ....they obviously posture to be a high end operation - but on some handguns and shotguns, they can be very competitive / yet sometimes on used guns, they are ridiculously over-priced - and then I'll find a great deal once in a while..... So I don't know / to me, its a place that you have to shop just in case ....especially the gun vault ...so see what is coming and going.

Couldn't have worded it any better..
