I have the opertunity to get my hands on a Ernie HIll Speed Leather holster for a great price. I dont do any competitive shooting(except freindly weekend shoots) but if it would hold okay when im hunting, or just out shooing or even riding then it may be worth getting my hands on. I have no experience with Ernie Hill, just heard the were great for comp shooting. Oh, I have a 1911 5" just FYI

Ernie Hill stuff is absolutely top-shelf in quality, but they had a variety of stuff, some for competition and some for carry, so I couldn't say "Ernie Hill" is good for something, without knowing what holster you're looking at.

Great stuff. I used a Fender 5 and 6 inch for a couple fo years, and a 6 inch "Fastrack" for a couple of years after that.

I'm not sure I'd use one as a "working holster" though. They are stiff as a proverbial board, and bending over with one on is, uh, interesting. The gun IS fairly well supported, especially in the Fastrack, which has a nylon spud that goes in the bore of the gun. The gun is rock solid, but pull it back about 1.5" and the gun is clear of the holster. Riding..hmm, I'd say no way.

For competition, they're great. I wish I still had the 5" Fender I started with.

Using this holster in a hunting environment is going to require you to tighten the adjusting screw so that the holster will retain the gun securely no matter how much you jump up and down. If you fall you could still lose the gun. For hunting I would recommend something with a secure strap and not any kind of speed rig. Keeping the gun attached to you is FAR more important than a fast draw. I would think real hard about hunting with a speed rig.

Thats what I was thinking, I was considering getting it because the price was really good($50), and I know they are pritty top notch, thats why I was considering it. But, if it cant do what I need it to do I dont want to waste the cash, or buy it, find out it is not what I need and try to jerry rig it to work and mess something up, I have a small history of that:D I think its the Ernie HIll Speed Leather Leatham

My wife and I both used your holsters, belts and mag holders for 8 or 9 years back when we both competed. Besides making some of the fastest leather I ever used the quality of your work was absolutely stunning. I had never seen such finely crafted leatherwork before. (of course the fact that Leatham and Enos and just about everyone else was using your stuff didn't hurt either) I still have several complete rigs and while I don't compete anymore I really enjoy working out with your stuff. Thank you for putting these products out there. Hope life is treating you well Mr. Hill.

Thank you for using my leather drail...life is very good thanks! I put out millions worth of leather and product.....and a lot of work!!! Real estate here in Phoenix is lucrative!!!
