Equipping the world

I've been working on a piece of fiction about an oppressive world government coming into existance in our own time. I like to get into detail in my writing, and I was wondering, what weapons should I give my United Earth military? Realistically, the weapon should be relatively inexpensive and easy to manufacture in mass quantities, use a common ammunition, and be reliable. The problem is, Ammo varies widely in the world. In europe, it's 5.56, 7.62, and 9x19. In Eastern Europe, it's 7.62x39, and 7.65mm Auto. In Russia and China, it's 5.45, 7.62x54, and 9x18mm Makarov. In Africa its a big mess. So? What should I select? I'm looking for an assault rifle, a submachine gun, a pistol, a sniper rifle, a light machine gun, and a shotgun.

I would personally stick with the common NATO rounds such as .223 Rem and 9x19mm. As for the shotgun, 12ga has to be the most common and readily available. The only exception I would make is if it was done realistically, you may end up with some antiques like the Moisen-Nagant in 7.62x54R. The reason for that would be because they can be purchased with no government intervention (for now).

Many of your troops would probably resort to using captured weapons they have siezed from fallen enemies in that theater of operations.
