epoxy sidesaddle

i dont much like the idea of screwing a sidesaddle onto my 870.


so what about epoxying it to the side of the gun?


any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
 
Why would you want to do either?
Most of us just use the screw "pins" that come with the Sidesaddle & replace the two triggerplate pins in the existing holes.
No reason to screw or glue unless you want to put the Sidesaddle someplace out of the ordinary on the gun.

You tap the two pins out (carefully, don't scratch the finish on the receiver) with a punch, align the Sidesaddle, insert the "screws" or bolts that came with it through the pinholes in the receiver, and tighten them up.
You have to remove those two pins to clean the gun anyway, it's no big deal to remove them & replace them with what comes with the Sidesaddle. By "screws", I don't mean you screw anything into the gun that damages or changes anything on it, while gluing the Sidesaddle to it sure would.
 
Installing a S/S on an 870 is as easy as pie. Even a ten thumbed dolt like me can do it.

A golf tee or a chopstick makes a good non marring drift to remove the TG pins.
 
Due to the plastics used in most side saddles, no glue will adhere to them, and they'll just pop right back off.

One trick is to buy some genuine Velcro brand industrial Strength stick-on Velcro.

This is usually available at Wal-mart.

Use sandpaper to roughen the back side of the side saddle to improve the bond.
Degrease with alcohol to remove any release agent, or oil from your hands and apply the HOOK half of the Velcro to the side saddle.

Press it firmly in place, then allow it to bond overnight.

Degrease the shotgun receiver, and apply the loop half of the Velcro to the gun.
Again, allow to bond overnight.

Then just stick the side saddle on the gun.

The only "watch-out" is, the receiver WILL rust under the Velcro if moisture gets under it.
This includes moisture from the air.
 
I have no idea of what your objection is toward removing the trigger pins and installing the replacement screws provided with the sidesaddle mounts. There is no modification to your gun, no harn is caused by the screws, every other alternative suggestion with glues has the possibility of damage to your gun. Personally, I don't even like the side saddles. I have had my 870 drilled and tapped for Weaver type mounts. It is an 870, not a Perrazzi. I also doubt that the side saddle "glued" to the receiver would hold up against the recoil.
