Eotech mounting question

I've got a RRA Elite CAR A4 with a "tactical" carry handle. It's sort of a low profile removable carry handle like this:

I'm thinking of putting an Eotech 512 on the gun but I'm not sure if I should just pop it on top of that carry handle or if I should remove the carry handle and mount it on the flattop. I guess if I mount it on the flattop I could then mount a folding rear sight behind it. If I mount it on the flattop, will the red dot be above the fixed A2 front sight or will I need some sort of riser?
 
You can mount it on the carry handle, but you wont be able to use your stock iron sights (the housing of the eotech will be high enough to block the front post from view). If you remove the handle and mount it to the top of the receiver, you will be able to mount a back up iron sight behind it that will co-witness with your dot sight.
 
I think Rock River makes a mount specifically to co-witness a rear sight and an EOTech (their DOMINATOR mount). It's a bit pricey though.
 
OK, thanks for the info. I just want to make sure I understand - if I remove the carry handle and mount it on the receiver, will the dot clear the front sight?
 
It should, at the least, line up with it, if not clear it. And that is exactly how I rock mine. I wouldn't mount it on top of the carry handle, that'd be too top heavy IMO and eliminate your irons
 
If you have a stock(mil-spec) front sight it will co-witness your front and rear sight. I would be a good idea to get a buality Back-Up Iron Sight(rear) as that can allow you to use the Holographic until the Batt's die or it breaks, you would have no shift in Zero or shooting platform!
 
My RRA LAR15 is a flat top and I mounted the EOTech XPS2-0 on it with a GG&G folding rear sight and an A2 fixed front sight. Using a GG&G quick release mount with the XPS2-0 allows me to have absolute co-witnessing with the rifle's iron sights. The EOTech isn't a red dot it's a holographic system. Mine aligns perfectly with the top of the A2 front sight. I've really enjoyed having the setup on my RRA. I purchased the XPS2-0, mount and protective hood directly from GG&G.
