'Enhance' my 1991 or buy new?

Well, I turn to my brothers & sisters ;) in this addiction. I'm ready to get something new...not sure what yet. But, I have been thinking about adding more to my project 1991. I'm thinking ramped bull barrel, one piece MSH/mag well, and MMC sights.
Thoughts, suggestions? Look for something new or work on my project gun?

If your "project gun" is your only 1911 I'd definately vote for acquiring a 2nd one.

Trouble with project guns is that during the commission of the project they are often visiting some friendly smith, scattered in pieces on the table, or untested for reliability after the end of the project. Not being with you in a reliable state of readiness as is proper.

I've got other 45's, so the down time w/o my Colt won't feel so bad. Usually a time for excitement anticipating the results!

Is there something wrong with the weapon you currently have, or is it suffering from parts wear?
Or, are you trying to personalize it to your individual tastes?
Maybe dumb questions, but I see a lot of people who take a perfectly good functioning firearm and think they have to add a whole lot of crapola to make it run right.
I have 3 1911 designs-1 is stock but for the wraparound grips, one is slightly customized-wraparound grips, a guide rod and adjustable rear sight, and the third is an officers model which has actually been permanently modified with a Kings bushing setup and a beavertail grip safety. The Officers model did not feed well before the modification, but it sure does now. All 3 group well.

It functions ok. It is just the epitome of a "project gun." When it's done, it will be what I always wanted from a 1911.
Funny tho. I'm actually considering a Springfield mil-spec gun. I just like the way the plain jane guns look.

I know exactly what you mean. Bought a 1991A1 last year and its nothing fancy, but I hand fitted a barrel bushing to it and it groups very well and function is perfect. Have had a few people ask me if it was a custom, but the only thing I did other than replace the bushing was to replace the plastic trigger with a short steel model as well as a steel main spring housing from a GI model. It brought back a balance it was missing.
