Hi Guys,

I spoke with a friend today who noticed that i have engraving machine.
(I have a small online business for computerized jewelry engraving).

He suggest that there might be interest in the "Gun Community" for small engraving of initials, sentences and simple graphics engraving on brass or the bullet itself.

I can not make those beautiful hand engraving on the whole gun like few master artist do.

I wonder if there is an interest in such a service.
Thanks for the input.

Other than if a person has brass with no headstamp and wanted some custom cartridge name engraved in it, I can't imagine why it would be done. I can certainly think of several, I'll say "juvenile", reasons for and phrases to be engraved on bullets but they all just scream "Bad Idea".

Can you post examples of your work.

I'm not thinking anyone wants engraved ammo, unless a hunting trophy.

People may be interested in phrases engraved on a gun or receiver

I haven't done any work on guns and brass yet.
I will do some today and post them for people to see.
Thanks

Hm. RickyRick brings up a good point. I can see that a hunter might get a trophy animal and want a "dummy round" made up that's engraved with some details and have it displayed with the mount. I wouldn't think there'd be a ton of demand for it though.

When I first got into casting bullets and reloading a guy from work wanted me to make him a 45 cartridge with his wife's initials on the bullet.:D

I can see an artist engraving or making some special ammo, most probably inert, for presentation guns. The case is pretty, the gun is pretty, why not use pretty ammo as well. But yea, best the ammo is inert just to be on the safe side and made really distinctive, don't want to get dummy ammo mixed up with the live stuff.

super small market if any at all-- just like most cool things costs more in the long run. not to mention the weights of the bullets would all be different if hand --maybe using a mold would work for consistancy. Have fun. engraving on guns has its place-just make name known and find clients, there is a market for sure.

I could definitely see it on firearms.

on ammo, not so much. I just can't see it being a big enough market. The margins would be small and the volume likely smaller.

I got a brass piece of 308 engraved.
I didn't have much time today to play with it but had to try something.
I ll try to make a pistol in the next day or two.

I've thought about a short prayer or something on a pistol slide. But, I don't want to look like a vigilante in a court if something should happen.

It's just another art form and it follows the same rules. You never know how ell it will pay, but it will depend entirely on who want's it, and how bad.

Your best customer would probably be Hollywood. Your best approach is not to become know as the best guy for engraving bullets, or even guns, but the best guy for engraving anything you might need engraved. Then hope Hollywood loves the little details like stuff being engraved in cute ways and that you are good enough to become their go-to guy.

You need to start engraving every odd thing you can get your hands on and you need to be creative in how you go about it. Then you have to get it seen.

In the mean time, between now and your days of fame and fortune, I wouldn't give up your day job.

Guys thank you for all the input.
I do have a local guy who like to get NFA trust engraved on AR lower.
He says there would be a steady demand for gun trust engravings.

I offered him free engraving if he comes in with the lower just so i can try with no guaranties. I know i can engrave any metal and plastic my only issue is if i can fit right the part to the machine.

Ill keep you posted.

I had another request to engrave with a skull the pin/plug of flat HP 45 mold.
I think this is cool idea and like to give it a try.

I hope this takes off for you. I would be great and never underestimate the power of simply being at the "right place at the right time", or in this case, "catching an emerging market early".

I can engrave any simple graphics.
As long as i can get it into vector graphics or black and white "line" jpg it can be imported to the engraver.
