Engraved Pistol

Well, if you had to choose one pistol to send off to the engraver, which would it be and why?

Depends on the engraving I suppose..

if I found a factory engraved colt pocket 32.. I'd buy it.. ditto for a new service revolver.

As for what I'd SEND off.. i'm not a huge fan of engraving.. but maybe when i buy my dangerous game rifle a little engraving would be in order.. you know coin fininished cape buffalo on the grip cap.. jeweled bolt... that kind of thing.. nothing too flashy.

And unless you are the lone ranger i don't like cowboy guns engraved..

Browning once had a renaissance engraved boxed set of hi-power, 380 and baby 25 that looked pretty tasteful.

Depends on what you really like; it should also be a 'classic' gun that bespeaks quality in the first place. No sense putting good money into a gun that doesn't make the grade. I have two engraved guns and have arranged for two others in the past (retirement gifts). They were: a 1913 made 1911; a GI 1911A1 completely rehabilitated; a new Smith M60 and M66. BTW, there is some lousy work out there alongside the good work. Suggest you check out the Firearms Engravers Guild (FEGA) site, read Meeks' book, and look at every engraved gun you can for a while. Since metal doesn't erase well and you may have it a long time, make sure you can live with it ten years later.

I have seen two engraved pistols that I absolutely loved. One was a S&W mod 41, the other was a Walther PP. Both were completely engraved and made heavy use of gold wire enlays. The Walther had ivory grips with the Walther banner inlaid in gold. I want my German PPK and a Baby Browning engraved like that.
