While we are talking about Enfields, does anyone know anything about the inverted two groove barrel? I saw one at a gun shop and should of bought it just because but didn't. It was kind of interesting to me as per I didn't see to many of them. Was this an experimental thing? How do they shoot? Is this something that was done after the guns service lift? ETC.

no they were fielded heavily, especially on the number 4 mk1* variants. so far of the 3 number 4s I've owned, 2 had the 2 groove and both were *s. they were a time saving thing, much easier to machine out than 4 groove with lands. they generally have a reputation for being less accurate than the 4 groove barrels but really, there's such little difference that unless you are a bench rest shooter or compete on a national level with them, it's not likely to be a serious concern.

I'm not sure what we're discussing here. What is an "inverted" 2-groove?
Is that in some way different from the war expedient 2-groove conventional rifling?

I honestly don't know. I just saw inverted 2 groove barrel and remember I saw one at a gun store about a 2 yrs ago. I don't know if there is a difference between the war expedient or the inverted. Tahunua seems to know his stuff so he might be able to answer it.

I know nothing.... absolutely nothing... stop spreading those rumors around.:D it's liable to make people start asking me stuff. wogpotter knows more than i do but the wartime expedient is the type of rifling I believe we are discussing.

I was just confused.:o
2 groove is fine, a lot of modern match rifles are now 2 groove.

The Enfield version may, I repeat may have problems with boat-tail bullets. Some do, some don't & the only way to tell is try a box. If they keyhole, flying sideways through the target, & have horribly terrible accuracy that's a clue. Its not a subtle thing, if you have it you'll know all about it.
