Enfield markings – stamping help.

I recently picked up another Enfield Mk4 and although a nice stock and bore the receiver, barrel bands and butt stock band look like bubba use 00 steel wool on them.
I’ve been collecting Milsurp rifles for a while now and always found a way to uncover enough of a number or stamp to identify the maker (armory) and or history.
In this case I’m not having much luck.
The rifle was imported by a company in Tennessee.
The serial number is almost gone from the receiver and the makers’ stamp that would have been on the butt stock band is gone.
I suspect it was one of thousands of rifles that ended up in India.
I say this because India scrubbed most of those guns from what I understand.
Anyone have any ideas on how to bring these stamping out?

You can do it photographically, but to actually re-etch them is darn near impossible.

To see & photograph them use a soft light at a very shallow angle in an otherwise dark area, the slanting light will pick up very shallow depressions if any are left & you can move the light to pick different bits & superimpose the pictures for a composite.

Do you mean Mk IV or No. 4? With the exception of the scarce trials rifles, No. 4 manufacturer's markings were on the left side of the receiver, not on the butt socket.
