A local guu has to enfields hes selling, Here is his ad:

No 4 MK 1* Long Branch 1944 (long Branches are great) Excellent Shooter

No 4 MK 1 Factory F Pf 1948 Very accurate with neck sized brass - this will win the match

I dont know if they are matching numbers or not but do have some pictures he sent me. What can you guys tell me about these? Im a newb. what would the going rate of each be? Pictures to be posted soon

Both rifles look pretty good and the price is good.

All the small parts normally have a stamp that well indicate the origin. Ideally you want all BSA on a BSA rifle and all Faz on a Faz rifle and so on. These rifles have been through several rebuilds in there long life and most do not have all correct parts. At the very least you want the bolt to match the receiver, both should have matching numbers.

You should check the head space on any new LE, Okiegauges sells a set of gauges cheap, it's good investment if you plan on owning more than one or two of these rifles. The bolt heads are available in different lengths, numbered 0-3. A higher number does not ensure a longer bolt head, you have to measure them to be certain.

The 1944 Long Branch well have the war time inexpedient bolt release. Odds are it's a two groove barrel.

The post war MkI Faz rifles are normally good shooters depending on wear. It well probably have a two groove barrel also.

The LE's can be very additive to collect. There are so many different variations and manufacturers you can have several dozen rifles to cover the common ones. I recommend you buy the Stratton book "No4 & No5 Rifles" and the Skennerton small arms identification series books on the No4.

If you buy these, Welcome to the asylum.

And if you don't buy the Long Branch, please let me know. I am on the look out for a 1944 Long branch with all matching serial numbers and in good condition.
