Enemy of our enemies an ally? About GW...

I am much more inclined to vote for GW after reading this article that is critical of GW. Thanks for the link Oleg.

Did you catch the line,
quote:
We elect presidents to build dams against waves of evil.
???
What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Well, I'm going to give you all a very reserved "I told you so." Something in my gut told me and still tells me that he's pro gun.
And, if the Boston Globe pillories him on gun issues, that only reinforces my feelings.

Anybody but Gore,

Dick

I hate to admit it, but this does make Bush look like a better choice. Of course, the liberal press of a place like Boston would hate him for saying that gun owners aren't demons, so the fact that they hate him is good but not absolute proof that he's pro-gun.

But still, if someone who would use the phrase "a terrible tsunami of semiautomatic blood" in a newspaper is against you, that's good. Kind of like having the guy in the park who drools on himself oppose your campaign.

When I first read the VPC's 'study' results about this issue, I sent an email to them asking how their statistics compare with overall crime rates in Texas. Think about it.

The real question in such a study is whether CCW permit-holders are more or less criminal than the population at large. And, out of the '2,080' charges, I asked how many individuals were involved. For example, one individual could be charged with multiple counts and / or crimes.

The VPC never responded to my requests. What a shock.

And, look at the number of CCW permit revocations versus the total number of permits - only 991 revocations out of 208,185 total active permits, from 9/95 to 3/00. Even if you simply compare the total revocations to the total number of permits (not technically correct, since an annual comparison would make more sense), over this nearly 5 year period, the revocation 'rate' is a total of less than .5%. Notice, that is 'point' five percent - divided by the 5 years, one could better estimate it at .1%. (An even more accurate comparison would be to compare annual revocations to active permits at the end of each year.)

Sounds like a pretty damn successful program to me.

Notice VPC also doesn't want to discuss the trend in Texas crime rates during that time.

Bush vs. Gore? A no-brainer, I'd say. And, we rack up more lies for the anti-self defense gun bigots.

Jeff, something else that I noticed:

quote:
The evidence points to a more dangerous Texas. From 1996 to 1998, according to the Violence Policy Center, a gun violence think tank, concealed handgun license holders in Texas were arrested for 2,080 crimes, including 15 charges of murder and attempted
murder, 103 charges of assault with a deadly weapon, 442 charges of drunk driving, 100
charges of indecent sexual conduct, and 140 drug-related charges.
To hell with the charges, how many were convicted?

It's also interesting to note that there is no such thing as an 'attempted murder' in Texas. If you 'attempt' to murder someone, in Texas you are charged with the crime of Murder. Or Aggravated Assault. And that's how it goes into the State reports.

So where do they get the figures for Attempted Murder?

Thin air would be my guess.

Come on Lawdog! You don't have to be accurate when you are from puritanical old Boston and God and right are on your side! Those jerks bought into their infallability a long time ago and the winning of the great moral struggle in 1865 (using a few Irish mercenaries) only re-enforced that image of themselves. Don't confuse me with facts, I've made up my mind and others peoples minds also. Besides someone at Harvard will provide me with a study to prove I am right. GAG!
