Electorates

It was discussed early on that the State's Electorates DO NOT have to vote according to the states popular vote count.
Now this is even more interesting in the case of Florida and this point in the game.
There are some folks who think that the recounting has just been done to give Gore's Posse time to work on these Electorates.

It could go the other way...
If ONE COUNTY can at this point "discover" 500 Gore Votes... I think Gore may be able to pull this off if Bush can't get those military votes counted.
Regardless - the underhandedness of this whole deal is apparent to everyone.
I dont think the Court Cases are going to matter very much in the end...
I think its going to all come down to these Electorates...
And if these cheats are apparent to them... Then regardless of the count - They will vote according to there conscience.
And if these be good men and women with a sence of right and wrong... they'll vote for Bush and give him Florida's 25 points.

Do we know anything about these people? Who they are and what parties they align to?

I am sure that the Gore folks have dedicated long hours to the myriad ways they could take this election... It's a good bet that your scenario is on their list.

The DNC and the RNC both have a complete, hand picked set of electors in each state. In Florida, each elector has taken a non-binding oath to vote according to their party. If they don't vote according to their oath, they are guilty of a misdemeanor and slapped on the wrist. The fact that these electors are had picked by each party makes it unlikely that they will break ranks.

There is one possibility: There is a rabid Democrat running around trying to convince electors in all of the Bush states to change their votes (where it's legal to do so.) He's using the "conscience" argument, as you described. If he gets only two of them to agree, nation wide, we're sunk...

<edit>
Went to look it up: The rabid's name is Bob Beckel. He insists he is not "investigating" the backgrounds of the electors to get them to change their votes... I'm sure we can trust his word. After all, what he is doing is so patriotic and noble... :rolleyes:

No faithless elector has ever been prosecuted for not voting the way he/she swore to vote.

I wonder how much Chinese money it would take to influence an elector? Some more than others, I would presume.
