election Map by county

This map is proof that the Electoral College system is working in this country. The EC was designed to provide a balance of power between rural areas and urban ones and it's obviously done that in this election.

Specifically, the EC was proposed and adopted because our founding fathers wanted to encourage westward expansion. These men realized that unless they adopted the EC or something like it, rural citizens would, in effect, have no representation in national government and thus city dwellers would be unlikely to move westward.

In other words, the Electoral College was designed to avoid the 'taxation without representation' that they'd just fought a war over.

What this map does not show is that the election ought to go to Bush. The election results show that. (Caveat: check the time & date of this post. Last I heard, the Florida recount showed that Bush still won there and we're waiting for the hand count to show the same thing.)

Gore and his cronies signed up to play this game under the EC rules. Under the EC rules, Bush won the election. All the whining about the "popular vote" won't change that -- and neither will this beautiful graphic which shows how well the system was designed to work.

This is why I say we should go to a county-by-county voting system. One county equals one point. Whomever gets the most points wins. This would require candidates to campaign all over, and be popular all over, not just in New York, Kali, Texas, and Florida. Of course, the County of New York would be worth the same as Keweenaw County (see that peninsula sticking into Lake Superior? That's the Keweenaw Peninsula. Has a population of about 800). But would that really be so bad? Urbanites wouldn't have such a huge avantage anymore....

This is a VERY STRIKING picture! Wish it was made available sooner!

Much like Jupiter's giant red spot, Tennessee appears to have a rather large red area also.

You know,

Looking at that map, and noting the distruibution of the votes, kinda makes me wonder....

Has anyone notice that it is just mostly the major urban areas of the country that voted for Gore?

Care to speculate on what would happen if we were to overlay that with, oh, lets say welfare dollars (socialism at its best)?

What if we overlay that map with, oh, lets say crime rates?

Conclusions?

Am I just getting cynical in my old age?

I don't think I would give that map much accuracy.

When I looked at the areas "reported" for Idaho, where I live, I saw (and continue to see) that just 2 counties are reported to have voted Gore. Those counties are Blaine (home of Sun Valley - Little Kalifornia) and Minidoka.

Since I live in Minidoka County, I know for a fact that we voted Bush, by a 6 to 1 margin.

As an aside, the county Sheriff is currently hunting all those who voted Dem and plans to deport them to Blaine County.
