Effects of Leading...

Hey all, Just bought my centerfire handgun a few months ago (SW 686 4") and I love it to death, got one of the "old" ones (pre-lock, firing pin still on the hammer) and the fit and finish is phenominal. MY question is:

We all know that barrel leading is a bad, bad thing; but what specifically does it effect? I realized the other day that I have been very intent on removing the leading that some schmuck let build up for YEARS without a good cleaning and I didn't really have a concrete reason WHY I was working so hard!

Hopefully you'll say it affects accuracy so that would explain my 1-2 horrible flyers every cylinder. ;)

It can ruin accuracy AND cause higher pressures.
In addition it can seal in corrosion, corrosion that's under the lead where you can't get to it, that's bad, you want to get the leading out ASAP! Years of experience have shown me the best removal method is the copper Chore Boy wrapped around a brass bristle brush, works faster and better than the Lewis Lead Remover.
