EDC SP 101

I know they have been around several years now. I also know there are also several other options that might be easier to conceal. However, how many of you find yourselves carrying you SP 101? If so, did you make any changes in sights, grips and how do you carry?

I carry a 2.25" SP101 daily. I have the stock grips with some nice wood inserts and I added a Mepro front night sight. I love this gun and carry it AIWB. At that location the weight doesnt bother me and shape of a revolver fits perfect. However I am looking for a nice OWB leather rig.

I've got a 2.25" dao that I put an XS night sight on. I also have a 3" that I put a Mepro on. They either wear a stock grip, or a pachmayr compac when I carry them.

Hi,

I've been carrying my SP101 for about 4 months now. I tried a few different holsters for CC and most of them found thier way to "the drawer of no return" lol.

Truthfully, the holster I like the best and conceals the best is a $20 Desantis "Insider" I bought at my LGS. The package had a small sticker on it that said "Custom". I checked the Desantis website and they don't list an "Insider" for the SP101. So, perhaps my LGS had them made special? I don't know, but they had a rack of them there.

I wear it "appendix" at about 1:00 in the front. I found this position to be the most comfortable. Since it rides so low, I don't feel it dig in my gut while sitting. Also, in the appendix mode, I find I can bend, lift my legs and rotate my upper torso with NO problems. I find it so comfortable that I forget it is there some times.

Here is the SP101 in the holster..

Here is a quick picture I just took of the holster on myself.

I did not change anything with the gun itself, it is bone-stock. The factory grips are the best for concealed carry while retaining a very good feel while shooting.

I tried the Hogue Monogrips after reading so many good reviews of them... But, my experience was opposite then the majority. I found them to much worse for felt recoil, concealed worse and made my accuracy drop off the map.

I found the sock grips to point naturally for myself, where as the Hogues pointed downward due to the combination of rounded back and the finger grooves. I had to adjust my wrist angle, which made my wrist roll even more during firing .357. For the first time ever I missed the paper and the cardboard backing while at the range! Not only that, I bruised my web area of my hand! These things NEVER happened with the stock grips, so I put them back on and the Hogues are in "the drawer" now, lol.

I guess it goes to show that you have to try things out for yourself, because what works for one person, may not work for you.

Hulley,
May I recommend an Enhanced Pancake holster OWB from Lobo Gun Leather. I've owned one for approx. 2 years for another weapon and highly recommend them. I just recently ordered one for my 101. Ray is great to work with.

I use to own a 101 and sold it. Finally had to have another. The other one I had had been fitted with a Trausch grip. I understand they don't even make them anymore. Does anyone else have a Hogue Monogrip on yours and if so, how do you like it. Also thinking about installing a fiber optic sight. Opinions?

They still make them, the TJ101. They are the official French Police grips and I heard they are far and above the most comfaortable grips for the SP101. Much better the Hogues from the reviews I have read where people had both.

As for the Hogues, read my last post. If you really want to try them, contact me, maybe we can work something out.. I'm not using mine, lol.

I had a Trijicon front sight on mine but it's taller and threw off my POI. It's also round so it doesn't match the rear notch well.

For carry I like to put CT lasergrips on it, otherwise hogues are the most comfy.

I carry my SP101 IWB or OWB. I shoot heavy 357's through it. I love the Hogue rubber grips - they fit my hand like a glove and really soak up that recoil.

I've got a 2.25 and a 3

The 2.25 has a HiViz fiber optic, good to great with adequate ambient light. In low light it is the same as the oem front blade, which is to say poor. It has had 4 sets of grips ---> Stock ---> Hogue ---> Trausch ---> Wood from Marc and Karen at Gemini Custom. It rides either in a desantis nemesis for pocket or a High Noon Hidden Ally

I swapped the Wood for Trausch on the 3 from Gemini. It has a Big Dot front sight which I really like. It is currently riding in a Remora with reinforced top option.

The wood on the 2.25 makes it more concealable (and looks good against the polished stainless) The Trausch on the 3 turns it into a compact "combat" revolver and it looks good against the bead blast finish.

Note: I don't have a problem concealing either with the Trausch grips.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look him up and see what they got.

I have the hogue Monogrip on mine. I like the hard nylon way better than the stock grip for carry as it doesn't grab your shirt. The rubberized stock grip was always good for getting a shirt hung up on if you made any form of twisting move (I thought). I like the monogrip just fine. It is a little longer than the stock, but I have no issues with concealment. While it causes no issue, I do, however, wish it were shorter. I am thinking about going to the Badger grip. I initially didn't because, it looked to change the grip angle slightly. Retruning to the Monogrip, I carry speed strips for my reloads, so I don't know if the Monogrip would hamper use of a speed loader. It is a little wider, so I could see where it might; I just don't know.

I, like several others, put a tritum sight up front (Meprolight). I saw Dan-O's with the painted rear sight, and I might try that too (cudos to Dan-O for that idea).

I carry mine in an RGrizzle Leather IWB holster.

I frequently carry my 2.25" in a Galco "vhs" shoulder rig.
I shoot it best with Houge mono grips, so that's what I have on it, along with an XS standard dot front.
It's nice on days I don't feel like dealing with a tight belt, or days when I'm in and out of the car.
I was looking for someone that made a hybrid IWB for it, but nobody seems to, and it wasn't a big enough deal to keep looking.
