Ed Brown Kobra

I'm lusting over the Ed Brown Kobra. From everything that I have read and heard, it is superior to the Wilson CQB and the Baer Thunder Ranch. Has anyone gotten one? If so, I'd like to hear your opinion and experiences with the gun. Please hurry though, I have pretty much made up my mind to place my order tomorrow.

Although I have never owned or handled one I believe that all of Brown's work is among the best available. Some of the priciest as well. If you can afford the 2000+ price tag go for it. Just remember if (that's a big IF) you ever had to sell, it will be extremely hard to find a buyer who understands and is willing to give you anything near what you paid for it. With that said that is one pistol that will provide a lifetime of shooting pleasure and lookability. Also know that you can get a lot of nice pistols for that price tag; but it is your money. I would love to own one myself and probably will someday. Good luck in your purchase. If you didn't already know Ed Brown is one of the members over at Pistolsmith.com. You can ask him questions there if you need.

Chief..

Several folks on pistolsmith have gotten them..they seem to enjoy them very much...

Not sure if really superior..at that price level all the semi customs shold run fin, have reasonable accuracy and have a boatload of features..

It may or may not have features that the other do or do not have..that is pretty much up to the individual...about the only thing it offers is the snake scales originally made popular by Marc Krebs..if that is what you are after..then that is where you got to go..

If you order...hope you enjoy it..

I suggest the Bob Tail......

.... I own one, or I would not offer an opinion. I bought my first 1911 in '81, and now have 8, no show pieces.

My match times, nor scores have suffered from the Bob Tail. I switch between the Brown, a Wilson CQB Compact, and a Wilson DCP Custom the most. I have always preferred the arched housing..... maybe that has something to do with it.

The fit and finish on the Brown is better than my CQB, and equal to my DCP. I have nothing negative to say about it at all. I would not hesitate to buy another Brown.

I don't like the scale serrations...never much liked them on the S&W 945 either. I would like to feel a bobtail in my hand but otherwise can't comment on that. The Brown guns have always looked beautiful in the magazines. For that money, I would expect absolute perfection, as well as excellent customer service. Which brings me to my point. I have called Brown twice and both times received what had to be the rudest individual I have ever spoken to in the customer service business. Now I don't know if I spoke with Ed himself or an employee or what. Wilson Combat, on the other hand, has some of the friendliest and most helpful people I have ever dealt with. The guy at Kimber is hateful also. But for a $600 Kimber I can deal with rudeness. For a 2 grand Brown, I would expect a little courtesy.

Forget the Kobra...

Lovely pistol, first rate stuff comes out of the Ed Brown dynasty, but buy yourself a Colt 1991A1 instead; you'll be happier, have a bushel of change left over so you can send your kids to parochial school and take the wife ou for sushi once a week.:)

If money isn't a problem, then I'm not quite sure how anyone would be "happier" with a stock 1911 over a custom.

Maby "happy," but certainly not "happier."
