Eat The Whimps Part TWO

Last time I mentioned that the age of the wimp may be in a decline.
I am of the opinion that its in a free fall.
While being a wuss in and of it’s self is not a stigma - but NOT being a wimp is no longer a stigma either.
I submit evidence of this from my past work week:
All last week I was subject to management training classes - and will be again all this coming week as well.
During the “Introduction” section of the beginning of this penance everyone got a chance to say something about themselves. There was like FIVE of us who mentioned the fact that we were shooters.
Some folks who mentioned shooting took me by surprise!
Following this - several folks brought out knives when that subject came up and 3 of us had some most wicked edged weapons… I thought I had the most evil knife - Nope. One fellow had an evil 4 inched serrated hook blade. Sharp contrast to the company weapon policy that would make the airport seem more open minded.
After training there was some of us that had a open discussion of MACHINEGUNS!!! Right there in the management area of the floor. I was wondering just what company this was… this was certainly not the company I stated out in.
Reasons?
I am thinking that with this BUSH/NRA - GORE/HCI campaign going on - there is a polarization effect happening. People who used to sit on the fence or hide in the vast GREY AREA of the subject are being virtually FORCED to take sides.
Surprisingly - more and more folks are coming out in favor of the second amendment. I say “surprisingly” because some of these people are folks you and I would NEVER have guest to be on our side.
Perhaps Hollywood had something to do with this…
AMERICAN BEAUTY was one of the TOP films recently and won like 5 or 9 or something like that Academy Awards while being nominated for just about ALL of them… This movie was about a guy with some mid-life crisis going on… while he was funny - he wasn’t the point. Point is this guy’s cheating wife.
She was with a fellow who mentioned that when he felt really good - he would go shoot a gun. A HANDGUN! She was surprised at first - but he talked about this feeling he got when he went shooting - like an almost high… Anyways - she went out and tried it. We see her at the range with glasses and ears on pounding away with a S&W auto. Later we see her in her car with the gun indicating that she actually purchased the handgun. Mrs. Perfect Upper Middle Class is now a gun owner. Amazing.
The POWER of this movie was that so many people RELATED to these characters in one way or another.
American Beauty isn’t the only film to show people with gun - but it is one that showed normal people that every one can relate to in some way - shooting a gun in a safe and controlled environment.
Saving Private Ryan was also a hit - a war movie… that reminded people of the importance of the SOLDIER and the sacrifice that they made… Your grandpa and mine. Other movies that made guns cool are The Matrix - wow, I mean just how stylish is that MP5K now? Now Mission Impossible 2 is out - lots of guns - and another reason for TOM CRUSE to get on yet another motorcycle.
[rantmode] Because of Tom’s scenes on a Ninja in TOP GUN I could not bring my self to actually buy another “bullet” bike - NOW the SOB is on a “Naked Sport” which is a full blown sport bike sans the fairings that make it look like a bullet bike. Naked bikes have long time been my favorite… Triumphs and Ducatis have been at the top of my list for ages. So much for this summers spree! Damn it! [/rantmode]
Anyway, where was I? Dispite Columbine and other things its not UNCOOL to be in favor of the second amendment. In fact - being pro-gun is kinda cool - edgy - and maybe “smart”. Being pro RKBA is cutting edge. Especially if you were a strict Anti before…
Here is Salt Lake City there is a radio morning show that I listen to on the way home - you can listen to via webcast. Go to www.1075.com and click listen now. Jimmy Chunga has mentioned on several occasions that he owns guns. Plural. This guy is quite popular and is getting more and more so - entering into TV even. He is funny and beloved by the radio listeners - and is PRO GUN! There is nothing RUSH or G. Gordon Liddy about him - just a funny guy that IS ON OUR SIDE. I was FLOORED when I heard this.
What has this done? Nothing in and of it’s self - but adding it all together means Guns are Cool.
Also note that when a gun is mentioned that the obligatory snide anti gun comments are being left out of many newscasts. This is a subtle yet an effective element in changing the weather. What do you think?

George,
Have you noticed that the "sensitive guy" prototype, Alan Alda, has turned into a real nasty character in his most recent roles? Kinda makes you wonder.

heheh, these wimpy characters remind me of the thing that popped out of the Ark in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I like Chunga in the mornings. We just don't get good reception in the valley. Stuck with pansy radio stations here. :( (Q92 if anybody from your station lurks here, you Suck!)

I am also starting to notice a little bit of a societal change lately, I can't quite put my finger on it, but over the last couple of months I have been starting to feel like we have a fighting chance in this cultural war.

I think that it is a backlash against the constant media bombardment of political correctness, and the constant namby pamby drivel that is spewed out. Most people are not stupid, and they are getting sick of the same old crap. Most of America didn't even get excited about the million mom yawn.

So yea, I am starting to have hope again! Screw the wimps!

I've seen the change too. I think that all the recent public shootings have got folks thinking. They're not buying the antis BS anymore because they see it isn't working.
Also, the census thing really P.O.'d alot of people when they saw how government was trying to intrude in their lives.
So, I think what we're getting is more of an anti-government movement rather than pro-gun. But that works in our favor as more and more people are starting to understand the real reason for the 2nd Ammendment.
The sheeple are just gettin' tired of being sheared and slaughtered.

I think the MMM backfired on them. People saw a bunch of idiots yelling "No more guns" and then asked "Why?" and the MMM replied "Because we told you so!".
That didn't go over too well.

Also, they asked for too much, too fast. This has all put the gun bigots right out in the open where we can see our enemies and unite against them. I cannot thank Rosie O and the MMM et al engouh, for furthering our cause.

I cannot speak for everyone, but I know that I am raging over the assault on my Rights. I wear Glock clothing everywhere I go, and talk as loud as I want to about guns.

I feel kindof like a gay person coming out of the closet. I am screaming "here I am, now take your best shot".
I used to kinda talk quietly about guns and such. Same with friends and family. Now we flaunt it. "Yes, we are normal, and yes, we own lots of guns and we live right in your neighborhood!"

I see a lot more of this when I go out and about. I was expecting people to confront me when I "came out of the closet" and started wearing gun logos everywhere, but instead I get lots of handshakes and conversations. As it turns out, when I talk about guns or knives, all the other people start piping up about how they do too, or they wish they could afford one etc. A lot of women are out there that want to get into guns also, but they just never took the first step to learn how, and they never new that their next door neighbor was into guns and could have showed them.
Hey, what do you know, I was not alone all this time! We were out here all along, we were just keeping quiet.

Also, on the other end of the spectrum, when I hear people say anything agains guns, I often see a lot of eye-rolling etc. People are tired of being ranted at about how evil guns are.

America was begun with a lot of free thinking individuals. I think that those genes are still in most Americans' blood, they have just been repressed.

Thanks to the MMM and the current rabid assault on our Rights, people like us are no longer going to be closet gun owners. I not only am not afraid to talk about it, I am PROUD to flaunt my individual thought, and doom on anyone that would dare to tell me I am evil for it.

When they speak of instituting "common sense gun control laws" keep this quote in mind:

"A `common-sense' approach to gun violence in America would be to ban handguns,"
- Josh Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center, (Washington Post, March 2000)

I dont know about feeling gay and coming out of the closet - but I do feel like a second class citizen wanting my share of the equal rights.
