Could you please suggest some excellent easy to understand books for first time handgun users that have zero knowledge about handguns or any guns for that matter?
Books should cover terminology of handguns, use, safety, cleaing guns etc.
Thanks

NRA offers some good, basic training courses.

Check with your local ranges--some may have a one-evening familiarizaton class. Some have a CHL-prep class.

If you are in the DFW area, pm me and I will try to point you in the right direction.

I'm sure there are some good books, too...but many people learn best by first watching, then doing. This gives them the opportunity to ask questions between the "watching" and the "doing".

Best, Rich

The link provided by idek above is to a book published by the NRA called The Basics of Pistol Shooting. It contains the information you need.

The various Gun Digest books are a good place to start. They have books that cover just about everything. Grant Cunningham's book is a good overview of revolvers and general procedures. Boston's Gun Bible covers lots of ground and has pretty good advice.

John Taffin's Big Bore Handguns provides much background information regarding a variety of revolvers and semi-automatic handguns.

The Gun Digest Book of the Revolver by Grant Cunningham
Boston's Gun Bible by Boston T. Party is a good overview of gun-ness.

Some others with more focused detail:

The Gun Digest Book of Combat Handgunnery by Massad Ayoob
The Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry by Massad Ayoob

A 2nd vote for Gun Digest book on Combat Handgunnery...its one of the best...in my opinion....and goes over a lot of the basics.

There is an old "coffee table" book called "Guns" by Dudley Pope. There is not much on small arms (more on artillery) but good illustrations and diiagrams about how guns work and their history.

Above that level, gun books tend to become specialized, so much so that few people seem interested in general knowledge. They will fix on some part of the hobby (like AR-15 rifles or single action revolvers) and just ignore everything else.
