Easy CCW state for non-residents?

I had planned to obtain a CCW permit from NH, where I travel frequently for work and play, i.e. hunt, shoot, etc. Until last year you could just apply through the state police in NH to get a CCW permit, and you needed two letters of recommendation. Recently NH changed their non-resident CCW process, and now you need to have a CCW permit from another state to get one in NH. Where I live it's next to impossible to get a CCW permit. Are there any states where you can just apply for a CCW without having to show up for a test, etc.? I've been reviewing packing.org but haven't found any.

What state are you in? Reciprocity is an important factor in this. If my guess of MA or NY is correct, no permit that you get will be honored by either state. However, you can get a non-resident permit in Maine or Connecticut. Both states are shall issue. Check packing.org for the requirements of each state. Connecticut seems to do all the paperwork through the mail. You'll have to call Maine about their requirements and whether or not they have to do it in person. Hope this helps.

The rules in New Hampshire were changed to accept any CCW from any state in order to issue a non-resident CCW, whereas before it had to be a CCW from your home state.

Your situation is exactly what the JLCAR was intending to address when making that change.

Apply for and receive a Florida license, then send a copy of that in to New Hampshire along with your application for about a 10-day turnaround last I heard.

You can carry openly in New Hampshire, just be sure to unload when you get in your car.

Florida is one of the easiest states to get one. All you need is proof of training, the forms, fingerprint cards, passport photos and money.

Thanks, I'll look into Maine, CT, and Florida. I live in RI, and I don't get the impression it's easy to get a CCW permit for here. In NH, where I work, life is much better.

Yeah, I checked Rhode Island's page, but it seemed like a lost cause unless you were buddy-buddy with the AG, so I didn't bother to comment on that.

I would move to NH (honestly).

I have a NH permit. I just sent them my Oregon CHL and it was within 10 day turn-a-round to get it (reminds me, I need to check the expiration date..... I'm good for another year).

I will be posting here soon (within a couple of months, as well on www.oregonconcealedcarry.com ) about my renewal on the Oregon CHL and I'll post when I do the renewal on the NH permit.
