Eastfield m916

My father gave me an Eastfield m916 12 guage pump shotgun with a 28" barrell recently. It says S & W Springfield Mass. on the bbl. Anyone tell me anything about this shotgun. Shoots real good. Dad had it for about 25 yrs. Seems like I remember S&W making a shotgun and hp rifle years ago but just barely.
Appreciate any info you can give me.

As near as I can remember, these guns were made in Japan by the same company that made guns for Browning and Winchester.

They were imported by some company for a few years under the Eastfield name, then Smith and Wesson took over for a few years. I think the early S&W guns were marked Eastfield, the later guns were marked only as S&W
Later, I think Mossberg sold them for a while.

Apparently good guns, just not special enough to sell real well.
