Ear ringing

I shot a judge about 5 days ago and my right ear has been ringing ever since. I was hoping this would go away after a few days but as time goes on ive been getting a little more worried. Is there anything i can do about this or will is eventually go away?

It might get a little better but damage from such exposure is permanent.

I have tinnitus but it's from repeated exposure to gunshots pre hearing protection. Bird hunting was the worst as we typically got a lot of shots out of our 12 guage shotguns.

Protect your hearing and never fire a gun without the combination of plugs and muffs. But that's just me, since I've got cicadas 24/7.

The most frequent question at the gun range is

"what did you say?"

I always wore ear protection at the range, but ended up in a shoot out in a small liquor store. A 12 guage went off right by my head and ever since I hear crickets day and night.

I've seen an advertisement, can't remember the name, but there is supposed to be stuff out there to help. I'm used to it now, and being married, it's sometimes a blessing. :p

You may eventually NOTICE it less, but this is a form of nerve damage that does not go away; HEARING PROTECTION IS A MUST.

The constant ringing is no joke.

When I was younger, much shooting, race cars, motorcycles, loud machinery and of course loud music was an everyday occurrence. Today, the constant ringing is a constant reminder of how stupid I was in not caring for my hearing.
In mornings, when I go out in the woods and its very quit, that when the ringing is the worst. It bother me the most then cause I just want to listen for the woods to wake up. In other words, when its quite anywhere (woods, trying to sleep etc) the ringing is the worst.
You get somewhat used to it but its there never-the-less.

Take care of your hearing, as this is totally preventable.

DON'T SHOOT ANY GUNS WITHOUT HEARING PROTECTION.

I wish you luck.. purhaps it is temp. If so, you are one of the lucky ones. One day my ears started ringing and it never stopped. I have been living with tinnitus for several years.

HUH?!?

I've got a constant ringing in my ears as well. Started in the Army several years ago (been in the turret of too many trucks hit by IEDs over 5 deployments, plus shooting the M4 and M24 without hearing protection) and it's to the point that I can shoot my 10/22 at the range and barely hear the thing going off. I've failed the last 5 hearing test I've taken...doesn't seem to be getting any better for me.

i did think it was loud but i didnt have ear protection and i was in the middle of no where so it woulda been hard to get some. im hoping ill just get up one day and it will be gone

Join the group of excessive noise exposure shooters. I have used hearing protection for over 40 years and still have severe hearing loss.

Find a doctor that is an expert in hearing and hearing loss.

This is my doctor in Omaha.

Contact the office and they can refer you to a doctor in your area to get an evaluation and treatment.

I have the same problem. I bet most you thought I had no problem. I assume it started in the army, like everyone else, and everything I've done since then has made it worse. I suspect there are noises that are harder on the ears than a 105mm howitizer, provided you are standing behind it. I also never wore earplugs on the rifle range because I couldn't hear (!!!) the instructions.

Here's something funny. Remember when you were going through either the reception station or maybe the recruiting station (this was 1965) and they gave you a hearing test? They put you in a soundproof booth with earphones and played what for all I remember, sounds that were just like I hear today, all the time. A buzzing or humming sound, which varies from time to time in intensity and tone but is never pleasant. I'm really not sure it interfers with my hearing, however. But my wife is a schoolteacher and has a loud voice and so do some of the folks here at work.

One solution is the same one you resort to when the differential in the car is making a funny noise; you turn up the volume.

Ring a Ding

Been there done that, if it stops be VERY careful that you do not do it again. Each time you are subjected to a loud noise it just adds to the damage and the volume of the ringing in your ears will increase.

OP hope you are feeling better now and the ringing has gone away.

Important lesson here is to always have hearing protection. I used
to shoot my Ruger 10/22 outside without ear plugs..now I wish I would
have been smart and just took the time to pop them in.

Keep your good hearing for a lifetime.

+1
My ears have been ringing almost non-stop for over 30 years. The VA has me rated at 40 percent for hearing damage. Believe it when i say: You don't want your ears to ring all the time.

Wear hearing protection when you shoot, operate a lawn mower or when exposed to any loud noise.

I'm right there with you with the cicadas AND the recommendation. Wish I had been smarter all those years ago.

OP, there HAS been damage, but that is not to say you will have permanent tinnitus, necessarily. Please please please don't ever do that again, though.
