Ear and Eye Protection

Just curious about a couple of products. I'd like to get two of each for when I take a friend to the range.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with electronic ear muffs?
Would you recommend them? Why or why not?
If not, what ear protection do you recommend and why?

I need a couple pairs of ear protection. What's offered at the range is fine, but I'm a new shooter and I need my own gear. I was interested in the electronic ear muffs because when I take a friend to the range, I either have to lift one side of the muff up or SHOUT REALLY LOUD!

Also wondering if anyone wears 5.11 Tactical Sheer Eyewear?

I like this eye wear because it looks badass. I'm not looking to impress anyone at the range. Clear regular eye protection is fine, but these just look nice. They seem comfortable and they seem they'd be great for indoors or outdoors.

Let me know!

Thanks, Gulley

I shoot mostly shotguns at clays, so I wear RE glasses that have different colored lenses available for different outdoor sky/lighting scenarios. I wear Peltor tactical Pro electronic ear muffs. I used their passive ones for years, but like you, I got tired of shouting or not hearing things. These are worth their money. They use standard AA batteries, not some round expensive lithium ones. They are dead silent when turned off and used as passive muffs. The batteries are easily replaced via an exterior thumbscrew as opposed to some where you have to remove the entire muff for battery access. They have a high Db rating and fit snugly over the ear.

I only wish I had bought these years ago

I shoot thousands of rounds from short barreled benchrest rifles under tin roofs every year. The best system is custom molded plugs under a good set of electronic headphones.

The plugs you can do yourself, they're quite easy. I have several sets of Radiens. Look for phones that when activated bring you down to 23-28 DB, there are several good makers out there, the ones with auto shutoff provide a nice feature. Silenceo, Dillon are good brands.
