EAA Witness .45

Does anyone here have any personal experience with the EAA Witness Compact .45? I recall reading an article in which the author was very impressed with one. However, some writers never saw a bad gun.

My EAA Witness in .40S&W never fails to jam. Regardless of the ammunition, it fails to feed.
It's been back to EAA twice, with new this and that... but one thing that isn't new is it still fails to feed.

As for the .45acp, I only know what I have read in an older issue of Gun Tests, and they experienced similar problems.

There are lemons in every manufacturer, but too many of these lemons make their way into EAAs products.
Personally, I would avoid the purchase unless I was allowed to function fire that particular piece I wished to buy.

Can't speak for the compact, have a full-sized carry-comp in .45 and am happy with it. Won't feed semi-wadcutters but digests ball, HP's, lead round nose & lead flat points with no problem.
I've probably put 1500 or so rounds through it and it has held up well so far.

Don't know about the compact, but the full size I had left really bad firing pin wipes on the primer. I tried extra heavy firing pin springs, and heavier recoil springs but could never fix the problem.

I always had the feeling that the gun was just not quite up to the .45 ACP. It seems like it would be a great gun in 9mm.

It was very accurate and I never had any malfunctions. I only used FMJ.

I had the compact and full size witness 45's along with a 10mm compact with no problems with any of them. All were bought slightly used for under $300.00,they were reliable, accurate and fun to shoot.the only drawback for me was the price of mags,$35-50 apiece which is the reason i sold the pistols but i do miss the 45 compact with the wonder finish

Thanks all for the replies. My son-in-law was asking about a carry gun. He has a full size 1911, but wants something a little smaller, and prefers to stay with the .45. I had recommended a Kimber or SA compact, but thought the Witness might be a good alternative at a lesser price.
It appears that the reliability of the Witness is spotty. I have to admit that the 1911 is also without some tuning. In my safe are 7 so I am not speaking from hearsay.
On balance the compacts from Kimber or SA seem to be the only good choice since he likes the 1911 and .45.
Thanks again, Jerry
