Just got my new SOG paper. They have East German Maks for sale. Are They any good? What are your thoughts on them?

Happy Shooting :)

The Makarovs are a lot of gun for the money.

If you're going to buy a Makarov, the East German versions are considered the best. Better quality control and fitting and, generally, much smoother triggers.

Check out makarov.com. All kinds of info on the Mak. I have a Russian. I love it. I called SOG about the EG and they were out and have to back order.

Thanks for the info. I thought that I had read somewhere that they were one of the best to get. Probably will order tomorrow. Had looked at one of the new versions from Arsenal, I wasn't to impressed.

Happy Shooting :)

The makarov is an excellent handgun (regardless of the price) and is one of the finest deals on the market. The EG guns have a rep as being the best. I had chinese and russian models and both were excellent performers. With the Corbon ammo, they are more than decent for personal defense.

My E. German Mak is awesome. Being surplus, the blueing has scratches and wear from long years (made in 1962) of holster duty. Fit and finish are great, lacking the sharp corners found on some of the Russian and Bulgarian copies. It's been 100% reliable with everything other than wide mouthed hollowpoints, but considering the power level, I'll stick to fmj.

www.makarov.com is a great source for information and parts.

I have a Russian. It is my summer time carry auto. I have never had a problem with it... ever! :)

Just as there is no such thing as too much fun,
there is no such thing as owning just one gun!!!

Off my meds (quit smoking), armed to the teeth, and loose on an unsuspecting society!!!

I've an EG model. Excellent finish, great CCW gun. Only problem I had with mine was that ammo (all) would hang on the feedramp, so I lowered the feedramp a little and smoothed the end off with a dremel. No problems now.

Best Mak they made. Sure wish I hadn't've sold mine (but I really didn't have any use for it at the time, and it was going to a collector who appreciated it), since I have a bunch of friends who I wish could play with it. The thing never jammed, never, and I ran a mess of hollowpoints through it. It was wonderfully accurate, and could shoot a 3/4" one-hole group all day at 10 meters off a bench. What a neat, fun pistol!
