DW revolvers

Impact guns has a "pre-production" 357 mag for sale and their web site says that they're resuming production of wheel guns.

Will they start making 44 mag revolvers, as well, or will they just make a limited run of 357's?

My brother has a model 15 from the seventies

A fantastic gun with only one drawback. The cylinder release is so hard to get used to.

The cylinder release is so hard to get used to.
it is different from the usual Colt & S&W rear-mounted one but with a little practice its actually easier & faster with the appropriate technique put to use.

It's not hard to get to at all. IMHO, it is in the perfect place for it! I like it much better than the S&W/Colt release location.

Most of DW revolver owners can open the latch and cylinder with only the left hand while grabbing a reload with a right hand and close it with the left hand. and back to shooting. Something even an open minded rear latch shooter can figure it out . HA.

As mentioned you can open the cylinder easily with your left hand only and use your right to insert a speed loader. Any other you need to use both hands without being clumsy.

Anybody know the approximate empty weight of the new DW model 15 w 6" barrel ? It looks like a fairly robust designed revolver that can handle the hotter .357 magnum loads for hunting and such !

wogpotter Great pictorial. Thanks for showing that fine handsome revolver.

WIN1886 My wifes dw is a 6" standard shroud profile with pachmyer grip and weighs in empty at 42 1/2oz. Size wise about the same as a 586 s&w.

Mine had a standard shroud 8" barrel on it for 20 years as my hog gun and some loads I made were 170gr speer sp at 1450fps and 180gr hrd caste at 1400fps. No joy to shot. Found out I could get two broken shoulders and maybe a pass thru on 25 to 300lb hogs loaded down to 150 to 1200fps. One handed shoots were far more control able. Now with a 8"barreled 44 dw for hunting is a softer shooting , a better trigger if that's believable and a 240gr 1500fps load is easy to control do the the waaay more weight. Both had or have redots. My 357 now wears a 4" barrel.

The DW revolvers were made with a great safety margin and can easily handle any SAFE 357 load. They are great guns and deadly accurate, owing to their shrouded barrel and heavy weight. The 357Max dominated the Ram shoots for many years.

Oh it is, it is.

DW 15

I have an old DW 15-2 I found in a pawnshop; and it has been a great revolver, wicked accurate with a 6" or 8" barrel and easy to maintain. It is my favorite handgun.

Weight wise, a 6" half lug non-vented barrel with pachmayr grips weighs less than my 4" S&W model 28 to me. The cylinder seems to be the same size as a model 19, and uses the same speed loaders. The frame is smaller than an N-frame, but larger than a model 19. I guess it is roughly L-frame size.

The front cylinder release is strange, but it works well for me. I can open the cylinder while holding the gun in the left hand while the right hand gets a speed loader.

Once I figured out how to drill a square hole in a block of wood, the shy is the limit on the variety of grips you can make for a DW. There always seem to be lots of grips, parts, and barrels for sale on ebay too.

The older ones sure are pretty! Glad I already have one, what with the prices the new ones are commanding!
