Just something you guys might find interesting. There is a TV show that was made here for the american market which should be shown over there soon called duty calls. It is a live action show with the SA police, all real footage. For those of you who are intrested in life in what is sometimes voted the most dangerous city in the world crime stats wise it should be of interest. If you are curious the issue pistol is the Z-88 a beretta 92 clone and the rifles are r-5 galil clones.Body armour is level 3.

Greetings TVN, Many thanks for the info; I
will be sure and try to catch it on the tube!!!

Best Wishes,

TVN - What city in South Africa are you referring to and has it always had such a reputation? I've not heard that any SA city was extremely dangerous - always had the impression that SA was a fairly safe country to live in.

TMB2 the city is johannesburg.Unfortunatly SA seems to be getting worse every day.The latest stats show that between 1 in 2 and 1 in 3 SA woman will be raped and 1 in 5 SA men.Scary aint it.Our cops do a good job but are overworked and underpaid. We have many murders and if carjacking were an olympic sport we would win the gold (he he).I have had one attempted and one succesful hijacking myself. The first one the sight of my 45 managed to send them running and the second they stearted shooting before they even asked for the car(a 1976 vw beetle). With our new gun control bill things are going to get worse. But there is still nowhere in the world I would rather live.

Unsolicited advice:

If someone is willing to put a cap in you (working on my gangsta' rap career, y'all) for a 1976 VW Beetle, get the hell out of Dodge (Dodge was a 19th century wild west frontier town in the United States. Lots of killings, lawlesness and general mayhem. I think it was Pat Garrett who became sheriff and cleaned the place up to where it was live-able). Seriously reconsider how attached to SA you are.

And oh yeah, our carjackers can compete with the best in the world! America can't lay claim to being "the best" at too many things these days, but our violent criminals rank right among the world's best.

Anybody have any info on the show? I did a keyword search on metacrawler and nada.

I'd be interested to see it.

Yah, but this is a "Family BB."

Gotta sanitize the gangsta' rap lyrics for the general audience. I'll also sell more records that way too ;)

South Africa. Makes downtown Houston look Like a kindergarden. My neighbors are a young refugee couple from Johannesburg. The stories they tell of home invasions, carjackings, murders, rapes, and taxi drivers with AK-47's is enough to curl your hair. The wife wore a Glock 19 while she did housework because of the prevalence of home invasions! The husband was hired at his first job partly because of his ability to use the office shotgun. Not a nice place. The Austin area has lots of immigrant South Africans coming here for the high tech jobs. Very nice people. Our neighbors are still getting used to things, They've only been here since November. People putting up Christmas lights for example. They were amazed that no one would steal them! One good thing about the country though, You can bring a pistol in, and permit it at the airport for the duration of your visit!

Jack 99 I promise you I got out of Dodge as fast as possible.I grabbed girlfriend and applied shoes to pavment as fast as possible I aint getting shot for that car.But crime aside it is a great place to live and at least we can fight back.As an aside here bandits do actually use assualt rifles it isnt just media hype. Now let me see ak-47`s are illegal yet they have them mmm gun control makes sense, not.
As for when the show is going to be on I cant tell you it started here last sunday but keep an eye on it it is intersting.

I especially liked the "anti-carjacking" device developed by a resourceful fellow over there in SA.
It consists of a propane tank, some piping, burners, and piezo igniters. The jets are placed below the rocker panels, and as the attack is taking place, the driver hits the igniters....POOF! 6'X 6' balls of fire discharge out alongside the car!
Wonder what they have for common car thieves?

I'm coming over in May. The latest info on shipping personal firearms into SA would be appreciated, since the laws have changed recently...or so I'm told. Also appreciated would be any info regarding foreign nationals ability to carry there. Best/safest hotels in Johannesburg are also appreciated.
