Duracoat

I got my Duracoat package in the mail the other day. I stripped and cleaned the rifle last night and then taped off everything I didn't want colored, man that was a painstaking process. I couldn't stop there so I went ahead and sprayed it too. The product goes on easy as you can ask for and looked good. I left them hanging and will reassemble them this evening. Hopefully everything will look like its supposed to when I peel off the masking tape and nothing will be stuck that isn't supposed to be.

The only thing that concerns me is that the color I chose, Tactical Dark Earth, doesn't appear to be nearly as dark as it is represented on the website. Though I do think it may actually blend a bit better with the trees and soil in my neck of the woods.

Anyone else use this product and if so, how is it holding up for you? Did you add the clear coat or just stay with the base color? I cought the clear coat but wanted to see how the base turned out before I added it on, I really don't want any sheen on the gun.

Iv'e used some on my sniper rifle and it has worked really well for me. After yours drys..it should be a little darker..JMHO

I've Duracoated several things. It is usually a simple process, and most of my errors have been from cutting corners on the prep work or being too impatient as I coated things. The result, when properly done, can look GREAT. I've never used the clearcoat.

The only thing I've noted is that there's really no such thing as too much Duracoat reducer for cleaning things up. That really makes life easier when trying to clean out the airbrush.

Are you gonna camo, or just stay with FDE? I wrote a Windows app that helps you pick approriate colors for your local landscape. You supply the picture, and the app will select the most appropriate paint system colors that matches the photo, and even applies those colors to a camo pattern and overlays a "painted" weapon on the phot you slected so you can see how well it blends in:

CamoPicker

It's absolutely free to download and use.

Duracoat is some great stuff...the application with a Preval sprayer is easy-peasy, it flows out well, and gives a nice durable, hard finish typical of two-part paints.

My gripe is similar to yours in that it's finish-related. Not as much the color, as the sheen. I purchased the tactical flat black to do my CZ-82 and the stainless barrel on a Grendel AR, and the stuff was still high gloss.
