I have a Remington 700 ADL with the nutmeg laminate stock that the bluing is nearly gone, and I'd like to either reblue it or duracoat it. Which one is better? Would the Matte black duracoat look good on the gun?
I've done Dura Coat on a few guns and it's an ok finish. But I would say it's only worth doing if you're going to do it yourself. If you have to pay someone to do it you'd be better off just rebluing. Even teflon coating wouldn't cost that much more from what I've seen. Of course that also depends on what type of finish you want. Bluing can be done in matte as well though.
I agree either re-blue or pick a better finish than Dura Coat. I've got a KG Gunkote on one of my rifles and Dura Coat on the other. Night and day difference in quality of the finish, of course the Dura Coat was half the price of the Gunkote.
