Duracoat good? Bad?

Hello:

Does anyone have any experience with duracoat? Is it a good product? Is it, like the name implies, durable?

Thanks

Like any catalyzed polyester, it is a good paint and very abrasion resistant. Surface prep is the primary challenge if you want the finish to be durable.

Its a fair finish as a air dry finish. The prep is the key to duracoat and any good finish. Try the bake on finish if possible. My wife dont like guns in the oven. But its a better finish from duracoat..

I had an XD 40 that had the slide Duracoated. Wore well for me. IDPA gun using a Kydex holster for almost 2 seasons. I sent mine off to get it done at the same time I had new sights installed.

It was kind of a khaki color, not as light as the photo suggests.

I duracoated my Russian SKS with Colt Grey duracoat and along with the refinished stock, it looks great. The comments about surface prep being paramount are right on the money. Also, use an air compressor and not the can of propellant provided with the airbrush kit....makes all the difference in the world when you are ready to start spraying.

I used it on a 1919 I built, it looks very nice but it wears like anything else. Good stuff just make sure you do a good job on the degrease.
