Durability Of Glock Mags??

Can one expect a Glock Magazine to last as long as a traditional steel magazine? I've heard people say they will get brittle, deteriorate, etc. My thought would be that they would OUTLAST steel mags. Of course, this is all dependent upon care given. Any thoughts?

JRiggs, I have been using Glock 17/19/22 for 10yrs now(as LEO and cancealed carry). I have the original mags and still use them today. With proper cleaning/maintenance they will outlive me!

I agree!

I have some G27 mags that have been loaded for years. Hmmmm...This reminds me that I should check them. However, I'd bet anything that they are as good as when I first put them away. (For an emergency.:)) I seem to remember that I did "download" each one by one round.

I think they are plenty durable.
I have only had my G19 for 6 or 7 years now, but the mags haven't given me a lick of troubles.

Now... that's with factory mags.
I bought some look-a-like plastic mags at a gunshow a ways back. What a piece of junk... what a seriously horrendous piece of junk! I can't explain just how pissed I was.

They didn't have the metal insert and fell apart on me.
One of them wouldn't even hold more than 8 off the bat before spitting most of them out (plastic magazine lips couldn't withstand the pressure).

They were also selling for $14 in CTD, I hope not too many people fell for it like I did.

However, the factory mags are solid and should last for many years of service.

On most the Glock mags I've seen, the bottom of the slide lock notch in the mag gets rounded. When it gets really rounded, slamming in the mag can cause the baseplate to come partially off, resulting in FTF problems.

I actually had this happen, although it was with an older Glock and mag which didn't have the mag travel ledges found in newer Glocks/mags. That said, I do still see the rounding on newer Glocks/mags as well but I don't know if it can progress that far any more.

No way to predict long span of a magazine. Routine checking and spring replacement helps, but does not gurantee.

Therefore, buy a truckload of magazines!

I am still using the original magazines which came with my G19 ten years ago. This weapon has had at least 15,000 rounds through it. The G19 gets cleaned after each shooting session but the magazines have never been taken apart for cleaning. Never thought about it but think I will in the near future. The comments about aftermarket magazines are correct. They are lesser products.
