Binghamton police made a quick arrest early Wednesday morning following the shooting of a 16-year-old West Side girl with a high-powered assault rifle in an incident detectives say may have been accidental but still reckless.

Toyan Grose, 18, of 110 Main St., apartment 1, was charged with shooting Elena Clarke of 25 Edwards St., at his Main Street apartment as well as the firing of the Chinese-made, AK-47 rifle early Tuesday morning in a separate, but related incident, Detective Capt. John Butler said.
Grose was charged with second-degree assault for the Clarke shooting, as well as attempted second-degree murder for the Tuesday gunplay. Both charges are felonies.
Grose was being held in the city police lockup, awaiting arraignment Wednesday afternoon in Binghamton City Court.
The shooting victim taken by ambulance to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center, Johnson City. Her condition was unavailable Wednesday afternoon.
Clarke was shot once with the bullet hitting her in the arm and then continuing on, lodging in her abdomen, police said.
While the police investigation is continuing, Butler said the shootings appear to be drug related.
Grose and Clarke, police said, were boyfriend and girlfriend, and the shooting appears to have occurred as the two were arming themselves fearing a retaliation attack by others stemming from the earlier Tuesday morning confrontation and shooting at North and Edwards streets. About six rounds from an rifle damaged several parked cars, but no one was injured in the 4 a.m. Tuesday incident police said.
Wednesday's shooting was reported about 12:30 a.m. at Grose's Main Street apartment
Grose was found by police at Clark's side outside his Main Street apartment. The weapon, complete with a fully-loaded "banana clip" or magazine, were found inside the apartment.
Butler said Grose also is wanted by New York City detectives on attempted murder charges. Details were unavailable Wednesday afternoon.
