dumb Sig question

Went to look at a couple Sigs: a 225 and a 220. I've never handled these before, looked at 225 first, man, I'm thinking, this thing is HUGE. Now I'm used to my tiny Kahr, so everything is big in comparison. I liked both, the 220 seemed to fit my hand better; but with either pistol, I found that I could not reach the decocker without shifting my grip. Is this par for the course with a Sig? Do you use the thumb of your support hand to decock?

Am looking for a replacement for my once trustworthy P9 which has begun to fall apart...

Thanks

Mike

Thanks Walt,

for some reason I had it in my head that you didn't want to change your grip to decock....

Try other Sig offerings and see if they fit your hand and thumb size any better. Sig does have compacts and sub compacts to choose from. You will probably not be happy in the long run if you have to learn to be a contortionist (sp?) just to opperate your handgun. Think of all the hours you will spend on the range using the de-cocker to practice that DA/SA transition and how much better off you would be if your gun fit you. Have you tried a 239? It is smaller than the other two and is offered in three calibers.

You can decock with your support hand thumb, too (assuming you're a righty). No grip-shift required. That's how I practice the DA/SA transition.

Even though I have fairly big hands, I can't decock my P229 with my right thumb (I'm right handed) without changing my grip. I usually decock with my left thumb, since it is right there anyway. Being a double stack pistol the P229 has a pretty thick grip, but that also distributes recoil forces over a greater area. Look at it this way: You are not likely to inadvertently decock the pistol. There's a bright side to everything.

SIG does make some smaller models that are nice...just in case.
The 239 is a smaller and concealable version of the guns.....
It may do better...I have large hands and cant decock the SIG I shoot occasionaly, without rearranging my grip.
Shoot well

If it makes you guys feel any better, I have 2 Glocks and 2 Berettas and can't operate any of the controls except by changing my grip. However, I shoot both brands plenty good enough to stake my life on any of them. The glock has the worst controla of the two... I find the magazine release has to be manipulated with my weak hand for speed reloads. The Beretta is a step above, but Sigs do have the best ergonomics , in my opinion
