Dumb shotgun question

Ok...idiot question time...

I have a 12 ga winchester pump with interchangable chokes. I think it has a 3 in chamber. I have only used this gun for bird shooting, and that was 10 years ago.

Here's the question. What can I shoot out of this gun? Can I shoot slugs? If so what kind? Can I shoot 2 3/4 shells? I think I just need a lesson in scattergun basics.

I would really appreciate kind help.

Not dumb.

Quickie
1........if any doubt, get chamber measured. May need info later.
2........No problem shooting shells shorter than the chamber.

3......I will bow to Dave and the other's that are more familiar with removable choke tubes.

Modified choke or more open works best with slugs as a rule.

As for loads, what are you planning on shooting?

If your Winnie is chambered for 3", 12 gauge shells, any 12 gauge shell 3" or less is OK.

And.....since every gun and choke are unique, try several brands and loads at the patterning board. What works for me may well be junk for you. And versy vices.

Slugs and shot.

Rob,
If your gun is modern enough to have choke tubes then it should have the chamber length printed on the barrel. Look back near the receiver.

Slugs are hard on chokes tighter than Modified. I would get some slugs and try skeet, IC and modified to see what gives you the best accuracy.
