Dumb Question--California Gun Laws Re Children

Hi All,
I am a 26-year-old resident of California, and I'd like to take my brother to the shooting range this weekend to introduce him to my good friend, Sig. Anyway, it occurs to me as I'm getting ready for bed, that this being California, there may be some strange rule that would forbid my 19-year-old brother from shooting a handgun. My research at the AG's website says that minors cannot possess handguns without the permission of a parent or guardian. Is "minor" the tradition 18? Is all the 21 stuff I'm hearing just with respect to purchasing handguns?

Please don't let my lack of knowledge vis-a-vis this aspect of the gun laws make you think that I am not a safety conscious shooter. I plan on giving him an hour lesson at home on the 4 basic safety rules before I even show him the gun.

I guess I'm just looking for the green light on letting him hold a handgun in public. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like it may be your brother's first time at the range??
Don't know about Kalifornia, but I sure hope you have fun.

A range master will protect the range from liability. Many teens shoot at California ranges. Good Shooting

Well, we had a great time. It was, in fact, his first time shooting. Our dad has a few guns, but he's not really a shooter. I'm the "gun freak" in the family, even though I only have one gun. Before we left my place I gave him a thorough lesson on basic safety and range rules/etiquette. He did great. He's even considering saving some of his dorm/rent money so he can get a handgun someday. Thanks for all your responses.
