Dumb question about my new Kimber Ccompact

I just got a new Kimber Compact and iiabsolutey love it. I took it to the range and it made me look like a pro. (now thats some kind of magic);) I have defenitely been bitten by the 1911 bug. I looked at all the other pistols in my safe and was wondering how far to the next kimber each trade in would get. Yikes no that scares even me.

Anyway, to my question. I was takeing my new toy down to clean her up before bedtime and I couldn't get the guide rod/spring assembly out to take out the barrel. I followed the directions in the manual and it just says to slide the guide rod assembly to the rear of the slide. No can do. I know that i am missing something. I was wondering if there are any websites that give a complete takedown procedure for the 1911 or kimber specifically.

Thanks for any assitance.

:D

Let me try. Easier to do than explain. Lock slide back. Notice tiny hole in recoil rod. Place takedown tool thru hole (or straightened paper clip with a small 'L' bent on one end. Short leg shorter than width of hole in slide.)

Now, when you unlock slide and slooooly let it forward, recoil spring is captured. Dismount slide normal way. Invert slide. Guide rod with captured spring should be removable by lifting rear up a little and moving entire assembly rearward. Barrell likewise.

Reassemble in revirse order.

Hope this is clear enough to help.

I have a Kimber Compact in stainless and I LOVE the gun. Shoots wonderfully, VERY comfortable to carry, etc. Great gun. ENJOY!

Also, make sure the barrel link (the little piece on the back of the barrel that has a hole in it for the slidestop) isn't getting in your way.
If so, just roll it up and back.

It fits really tight, after you have it depressed with the pin-removal tool, you have to jiggle and work it to have it come out. I had the same problem and it took some time to figure it out.
