Dumb preban-postban question

I figured I might as well ask it sooner than later- I have no experience with the preban guns, but what differences do they have over postban guns? Is it actual construction? Why is it that they tend to be more "desirable" than a post-ban gun? Do they have some magic ability to be not regulated by some law that the no-bans are subject to? If anything, it seems that my AES-10B is just as functional, in regards to muzzlebrakes, magazines, etc. as a preban gun, if not in better shape...

Hmm. Thought people would be all over me by now.

The plot thickens. I've been reading about it- My AES-10B RPK is a 1989 receiver, but there is no way tell when it was "assembled" into this alleged "semiautomatic assault weapon"(), whether that was in CAI or Romania before 1994 or not. I got it a couple weeks ago, so I'm assuming it's a no-ban. Thoughts?

Pre ban means nothing to most folks now. After the AWB of 1994 certain features on guns were not allowed. Flash hiders, bayonette lugs, mags over 10 rounds among others. Between 1994-2004 all new guns could not have these features. Guns/magazines made prior to the ban were still legal and were worth significantly more than post ban guns.

The AWB expired in 2004. Guns made since then can be made just like the guns made prior to 1994. In most places at least. Some states,or communities imposed local bans. They are all different, some allow pre 1994 guns, some do not allow any "assault weapons". Pre ban or post ban.

Some states mirrored the AWB in their state laws.

So, in these states, the AWB is still in force and a preban is your only option if you want the evil features.

That makes exponentially more sense than what I was gathering. That's why they command such a high price, since they are much more mobile in the market than the new stuff. Well, I'm glad I'll never move to California or Chicago :p;)

Or Maryland if you are wise:D Why in the heck did they ban bayonette lugs? In MD there is still a restriction making so called 'assualt rifles' as hard to obtain as a hand gun and with the same limit of one a month. They classify a rifle as an 'assualt rifle' if it has two or more of a list of particular features; one of those features is the bayonette lug.

I believe the Falklands was the last time, although it may have happened once or twice in Iraq, or Afghanistan though.

The reality is the clowns in Washington were trying to differentiate between firearms that aren't much different. That is one of the things "evil" rifles like a AR15 has, that a "good" rifle like a Mini 14 does not.

Yes, it is stupid.

pre import band is the big thing. Not pre 94 ban.

At one time you could get ALL chinese parts, chinese built AKs,fully equipped with bayonet and all the bells and whistles. Or the polytech M14s manufactured and assembled in Japan.

When you have an entire gun made from quality parts, it is highly superior to guns made from parts kit. Especially based on American receivers as US made stuff is always made as cheaply as possible cause the cost of labor is so high.

You could get a massive assortment of some of the best 223 brass cased, 7.62 x 39 mm copper washed or 308 copper washed steel cased ammo.

The 7.62 x 39 had steel core even.

when you have people working for peanuts you can afford the best materials and the best qc inspectors.
