Dumb Cleaning Question

I am new to long guns, so I have kind of a dumb question. After you get a scope sighted in, does it need to stay attached when you field strip the gun for cleaning. I would assume you would so as not to mess up the aim. Thanks and sorry if I sound like a goof.

It is for this reason..... if you remove the scope you will have to resight and get zeroed for what yardage you desired. Now after you cleaned it and left the scope mounted you will have a perfectly zeroed rifle.

there are such things as quick detach scope mounts that are supose to hold there zero but they dont work that well from what i have seen and yes leave the scope on gun

Thanks guys. That seemed to be common sence, but I thiought I should ask. I just seemed more awkward. That is being fixed by a good vise.

Just to be different, on most of my scopes I have high-quality QD mounts, and I take the scopes off for cleaning. Usually the change of POI is less than one MOA.
