dual handguns for conceal carry/truck range

Been researching for awhile and haven't been able to find this exact info. So If you were looking for the same platform type handguns(for familiarity of controls) one for conceal/nightstand and the other for the range/truck gun what might they be? Same caliber would also apply, either in 9mm or 45acp. Think of it as big and little brother type question. Throw in smaller hands and could be 1911, striker fired or da/sa. I realize this is a "loaded" question, just curious for what others like-dislike. As a novice I can't get too much valued info.

i wouldn't leave a gun in my truck.

plenty of platforms out there with full size, compact size, and sub-compact size.

Ok. I'll bite...
I prefer striker fired weapons, no thumb safety, and, because I'm a lefty, the mag release has to be either reversible or ambidextrous. Therefore, my big-brother-little-brother combo would be the M&P Shield and the M&P full-size in 9mm. A close second would be the XDs and and a larger, full-size XDm, in 9mm or 45ACP.

Id go P226 for range and nightstand duty... And P229 for range and carry duty. That combo works well for me.

Ive never quite understood the concept of a "truck gun". Maybe I dont understand what that means. I would also never leave a gun in my truck. If im in my truck, then so is my carry gun.

sig p226 and a sig 290

cz 75 compact and a cz raami

full size glock of your liking and a baby glock

beretta px4 storm and the storm compact

big ole rhino and a little snubbie rhino

that goes for any 4" plus barreled revolver and it's snubbie of same model

how about a carbine for truck
Taurus ct9 carbine and Taurus pt111 gen 2

Truck gun would not be left in vehicle. It would be in vehicle only when I am. I live on a farm and run into various critters and have several farmsteads I keep grain and machinery at that are abandoned. Have run into a few situations where even though posted no trespassing I have drove in to find people there. Nearest police department is over 30 miles away. Yes I do have an AR and shotguns, but want a handgun also. Not easy to lug around long guns all the time. Plus, if I have to make a quick trip to town I don't want long guns in the vehicle. I do have my Class 1 conceal carry.

Ive gone with Glock, you can do a 26 small gun size and a G17 for larger. The nice thing is the 26 will take every Glock 9mm mag, even the 33 round G18 one

I second the 9mm Glocks.

A 26 for a sub compact carry gun, and a 19 or 17 for your "full sized" even though the 19 is considered a compact.

In case you don't already know...

Glock 26 = sub compact 9mm

Glock 19 = compact 9mm

Glock 17 = standard full sized 9mm

Glock 34 = full sized with slightly longer slide and barrel, geared towards competition 9mm

Glock 17L = full sized with longest slide and barrel 9mm

The magazines for the 26 will only fit the 26 because it has the shortest grip length. The magazines for the 19 will only fit the 19 and 26 because it has the second shortest grip length. The 17, 34, and 17L all share the standard full sized magazines which also fit the 26 and 19. The extended 31 & 33 round magazines will also fit all of the 9mm Glocks.

I would chose 9mm Glocks because I like the simplicity of them and I like 9mm for various reasons. I also find the 26 to be incredibly easy to shoot well despite only getting two fingers on the grip, although it's a bit harder to conceal due to it's width unless you dress around it. There are other smaller and thinner single stack 9mm's that are easier to conceal. If a Glock has it's chamber loaded it should be in a holster to protect the trigger because there is no manual safety.

Glock is the one-stop-shop for shared pistols.

Glock 26 for compact carry. Glock 19 or 17 for the larger frame size. Shared magazines downwards in size.

You can do the same trick in .45, .40, etc.

Maybe not the concept of the OP but, whatever pistol I'm carrying I have always tried maintaining the next smaller size down model to maintain magazine compatibility for the BUG:

•Glock 19 - Glock 26.
•CZ P-01 - CZ 2075 RAMI (Had to switch P-01 mag baseplate from rubber to plastic to work with RAMI grip extension, otherwise wouldn't securely lock in).
•Walther P99 and/or PPQ M1 - P99C
•Steyr C9A1 - S9A1
•HK P2000 LEM - P2000SK LEM

Glock 26 CC and Glock 19 or 17 for HD.
I would use only one 26 mag in the pistol for CC and all spare mags would be for the 19/17.

It makes no difference to me. Right now I have a Star mode B under my left arm and a 1905 Savage in .32 ACP under my right.

Once you get to the point that you can shoot anything revolver and or semi auto with equal speed and accuracy it wont make no difference.
