DSA Type 1 or Type 2?

I've got the chance to buy either a new Type 1 or Type 2 receiver DSA FAL for $799. What are the differences between the receivers and which is better?

IIRC the difference is only in the type and number of lightening cuts made in the receiver. I believe I was advised that type II was (very very marginally) better, and thats what I have on my DSA FAL.

Pssssst! It ain't a big deal. That rifle is a great rifle, either way.

As Coronach said, slightly more metal is left on in supposedly critical areas when the lightening cuts were made. If the lightening cuts concern you, go all the way with a Type 3.

I got a Type II a few months ago and love it. I am pretty sure I heard DSA wasn't going to make anymore Type II kits soon. I never heard about the Type III?? I don't think there is really any performance issues. Its pretty much cosmetic.

The Type 3 has almost no lightening cuts on the exterior.

Very interesting.

Type III is ugly. :) What is the weight difference?

Also, lest any FAL newbies be confused, the vertical slot or cut on the front end of the type 2 and 3 receivers is the cut for the carry handle. Most (all?) companies that make FAL receivers offer the carry-handle cut as an option, so its not something particular to any type (1,2,3) of receiver. The particular type 1 receiver pictured just happens to not have a carry-handle cut

Not sure what the weight differences are between the three. For me, the difference wouldn't be that great to consider which one to buy based on weight. It's not like I would be carrying the rifle up and down wooded hills all day. It would just make a trip between my apartment and car and between my car and the shooting bench.

If weight is a serious concern, they do make lower receivers in aluminum now.

I don't think the weight savings is more than a few ounces, which, along with the cost of making them, led to the omission of the cuts.

As far as the DSA guns go, it's not much more than a matter of asthetics. I like the looks of the Type01, so I bought it, but I'd have no problem going with an Imbel type03.
