My experience with my DSA SA58 and DSA for those thinking about getting one: I purchased a new DSA SA58C16. Overall, nice rifle. One problem, the bolt hold-open did not work. It would not hold-open on the last round and would only catch when cycled very gently by hand (was not the mag, I tried several). A bit of a bummer after spending $1500 on a rifle.
No biggie, I called DSA and sent it in for a warranty repair. Long story short, it took nine weeks-almost ten, more than a half dozen phone calls and e-mails (not to mention finally blowing my stack) to get it back. The customer service manager, Nicki (poor thing), had to personally go and get my rifle where it and the paperwork had been sitting, finished, and collecting dust for weeks (lost in the shuffle with everyone I had previously spoken with clueless and unable to help).
The rifle finally came back yesterday. Guess what? Upon opening I immediatley see that a key mounting screw from my scope mount is now missing (wish that I could post my photo as the gaping hole where a screw once was speaks louder than words can say). The washer and female end were in a plastic baggie. Put another way, the gunsmith lost the screw and made no effort to take care of it, or me.
I e-mailed DSA immediately and just read a response stating that my mount is an aftermarket mount and I need to speak with the gunsmith. I would wager to say that they are going to tell me that they are not responsible for aftermarket items added to the rifle (insult to injury). On the upside the bolt hold-open appears to be fixed...ten weeks later (but a $70 mount has been rendered useless). Hopefully I can get a replacement screw, which I will have to wait another week or two for, if I can get one-great.
The customer service manager, Nicki, has advised me that she has given her notice because she is fed up with DSA failing customers like this. Imagine how much crap she has to deal with as a customer service manager when DSA is running their show like this. I feel bad for her and salute her for helping me get my rifle back. Nicki was great, but DSA has basically sucked.
For those on the fence about picking a battle rifle, (I was between this DSA FAL, a PTR-91, and an M1A), I would have to say, given my experience, that one may be better served beteen the latter two.
