Been eying one, but I can't seem to get it out of my head that someone somewhere mentioned the accuracy was only so-so. The guys on my forum are more M1A oriented, so I figured I'd run over here and pop the question.

Brian -

I can't speak specifically about the DSA Congo. You might look around on the FAL Files, those folks should be able to give you good info.

That said, I have a DSA FAL, mostly STG parts with an 18" barrel. I'm looking at 2-3 moa with surplus ammo, when I do my part. FAL's are a battle rifle, not a target rifle. It's perfectly capable of keeping everything in an 18" circle at 500 yards, which will do the job.

IMHO a tuned M1A is probably slightly more accurate, but I prefer the FAL ergonomics. Depends on what you want to use it for.

Yeah, that is considerably less than I expect out of my M1A's, but you do have to factor in the shorter barrel. Realizing it is not a match grade set up, I figure under 4 MOA is something I could live with.

As for FalFiles, no thanks.
I'd rather get mugged by a lesbian biker gang.

I assembled a STG58 kit on a DSA receiver.I think DSA makes good stuff. At that time I got a great deal on 1000 rds of IMI ammo from AIM.With irons or scope,I got 3/4 or so horizontal dispersion by1 1/2 or so vertical for 5 shots or less.More rounds, the way the gas system and bbl work together, with heat I would get vertical walking.I could only improve the trigger a little. It was mediocre. One great day,I blew up a white ballon and put it on a clothspin at a lasered 500 yds.Bipod down, slid the iron sight to 500,set the tiny spec of white in top of the front blade and squeezed.Ballon disappeared.
I bought an original British SUIT scope,it was cool, the red nuclear night glow still was good, then I replaced that with some Israeli surplus 6x42 sniper scope.Great optics, but the adjustments don't work well. Finally put a 2-8 Leupold mildot on it.One day I went for a long walk with it.I just decided It was not something I wanted to carry and sold it.I give the FAL many high marks. It is rugged and dependable. For me,I prefer the advantages of the AR 308 rifles. But a DSA FAL is a good rifle.

I had the longer barreled STG from DSA with the folding stock. It was 100% reliable and accurate enough at 200 yards. Will it compete against my M1 at Camp Perry? No, it won't. But then again, the FAL was never meant to be a match rifle.
